I'm sure I've read that there's some sort of " parking penalty " to discourage people from leaving their cars in the bay post charge? Not sure what the system is and the economics vs paying for parking elsewhere.
Correct. The supercharger will monitor the time spent at the spot once the car is charged and will then start to charge you rental on the parking space. The simple solution is don't be an peanut and leave your car charging way past the "full" point.

It says they have a 3m long cable. Charging will be passenger side as that's standard for Tesla. The 3m *might* be long enough
Park facing in opposite direction?

A couple of questions, has anybody used a comparison website to compare insurance of an EV similar to your petrol/diesel powered car you are replacing? Are EVs a lot more expensive?
How about driving thro a flood, not the type of flood we see on TV with car roofs showing but just like a small fjord you come across after heavy rain? Will the battery be ruined?

I believe Tesla is at the expensive end for insurance purposes. Don’t know how the rest compare ?

Another thought crossed my mind, when you plug into an external charging station the EV could download information from your cars brain to government agencies disclosing information on where you have been, have you been exceeding the speed limits, mileage for road tax etc. You may be thinking you are just getting a quick charge but big brother may be watching you?

Someone will give a more detailed answer but I think telematics does the same wirelessly in realtime, especially for fleet and lease vehicles.

There's a YouTube channel showing I think Rufford Forge. People video cars crossing, most of the ICE fail to get across. I've not yet seen an EV fail to get across

You're being too suspicious. Besides the anti snoop laws would prohibit third party extracting information from your car without permission. Our Nissan Leaf asks if it can use data we decline it

Yes that's the basics of it, work vans are tracked, when you switch off the engine it synchronises the data to the providers website, where it can be viewed, IIRC it has a SIM in it, , but some cars are tracked by the manufacturers built in tracker that sends the telematics to the manufacturers cloud storage system, the Police in North Wales caught the crossbow killer with it, they torched a Discovery, unfortunately for them it had sent the telematics to JLR's storage, where the Police could see in detail the exact movements of the vehicle

Any love for the soon to be released Renault 5 EV?

Looks like a cool car - probably a tad too small for us for holiday luggage (we like to get it all in the boot and not leave some on display in eg car parks).

Web pictures look good, and final car is supposed to be extremely similar although the link talks about the underpinnings on a current model car.

Not a lot more but some more. My Renault Grand Scenic used to cost me about £300 per year to insure. The same level of insurance for an ID4 would be £530 a year. To be fair, the Scenic was worth £15k when new, whereas the ID4 was worth £50k, so some of it is definitely the price.

Tesla are in the top insurance group. Apparently this is due to their manufacturing making it difficult to do things like repair minor dents, and also the tendency of people to test out the huge amount of acceleration you get, without autopilot being switched on to stop them crashing.

No. However many manufacturers will say that your warranty is void if you try to drive it like a boat (which you can do for short distances). EVs manage fords and floods far better than ICE cars. You cannot flood them like you can an exhaust.

However wheel bearings, brakes, electric motors and wiring harnesses don't take well to wading

I hadn't realised that - can you post a link for a Tesla to CCS extension that I could use for my ID3?

Thanks!!

Sorry I didn't mean that. It was in relation to whoever it was saying sarcastically about just take your garden extension lead. I'd not do that but have got a sturdier extension cable for granny charging just in case.

The Nissan Leaf is tested up to 70 cm deep. I'd not be trying that myself though. Seems dangerous in the real world.
