Hello decadence
Daft question, but what stops other people from charging using your cable?

I can switch mine off from inside the house (switch is just under the main circuit breaker board)

There’s not. In fact I went with the one I got because it came with a longer-than-typical cable (7.5m vs typical 5m). 10m is the longest I recall seeing but there are also companies that’ll sell you a replacement cable for wiring in to the unit after fitting.

I'm not sure. The Zappi comes with a 6.5 metre cable which is more than enough IMHO. I seldom use the length unless I am in a hurry and the car hasn't been reversed onto the driveway.

YESSS electrical say:-

You can also buy an extension cable should you want to.

Thank you. I would need more than 10 metres, because car would be parked at end of drive (but on drive). Front bumper at least 8.5 metres from nearest place charger could be located.

Not something I need to concern myself about yet, I don't have the EV yet ;)

Like most EV owners I'm on a cheaper night time tariff.

Theoretically if I was away they could park on my drive and get a few hours free each night but that would be a bit weird.

Also I can alter the schedule or turn it off remotely from my phone.

Long-term project for me as we are due to change car 2025-2026 - although time will no doubt fly by.

Looking at options already and watching plenty of vids on Youtube.

EX30 impresses me so far - looks classy inside and out.

Hyundai Kona - watched some vids last night and decent reviews but it is an awkward looking and unattractive vehicle imo.

As are a good number of EV's. Friend has an iX5 which is very spacious and nice to ride in (costs far more than I wish to pay tbh) but by christ it is pig ugly.

Nice to see some new models coming up without false grills etc.

Polestar 2 2024 - too big for our needs but looks pretty cool. Can see where Volvo are going with their design direction.

The future looks better.

A number of things. Usually just the car being on the driveway but...
The Zappi allows you to set a lock on the charger when you are away or a permanent pin number. Also, the setting I have it on means that it will only charge when Intelligent Octopus is active unless that setting is overridden.

Was that on Facebook? By any chance?!

The flipping over comment was tongue in cheek because iirc it has 60% weight in the front of the car.

The cabin quality comment was coz I've been in loads of Audi cars (edit) and have always been impressed by the interior.

You are almost certainly charging at 7kW, which means that the car needs to be there for several hours to get a decent charge.

But yes, circuit breaker, code on box and inside switch are all possible options.

The smart car gone luxury. I thought the idea of the Smart was tiny city vehicle. This is a JV with Geely and Merc. £36k its going to appeal to retired professionals

Strange looking beast although the presenter thinks it is lovely. EX30 looks far better.

Classy cabin but not keen on the high 'tunnel' between the front seats and the boot/frunk space looks poor.

Not for me although I can see the appeal of half a Merc' swaying buyers.

I buy these Zappi

https://www.myenergi.com/product/zappi-ev-charger/

These are superb, solar/wind energy settings for true eco mode or work just a standard EV charger from the grid. No need for additional earthing like some others.

Installation costs will vary enormously depending on complexity and location

Love our Zappi too....currently chucking in from our solar at 2.2kW, several kW so far today.

If you are familiar with the lower cost Intelligent Octopus tariff, be aware that if the car is not on Octopus' list, then you cannot yet get on their Intelligent tariff. They are in beta, but they have been saying it is coming out for at least 4 months so far....

We have been on Go (formerly on GoFaster) pretty well since we got it, and 4 cheap hours has worked fine for us, but Intelligent Octopus would be nice to have (6hrs). There are other caveats with IO - you have to be plugged in once a month when they decide the daytime is cheaper (I think), which might cause issues to those with home batteries. I like the idea of more cheaper hours, but with our 14.4kW home battery, added to some stories I've read about issues some have had, make me loathe to want to jump in. Certainly not willing to be beta!

Yep, and sometimes they are a bit unclear. They kept saying the ID4 was in beta but when I applied it let me set it up. It took a bit of back and forth to get it working as well.

I haven't seen that caveat myself. They do suggest that you plug in when you are at home but largely because the charging isn't always at a fixed time. You might get 9-30 to 1030 then from midnight to 7am. 9 hours in a day is the most I've had so far.
