Good News.

Smart move by Tesla, they have become the standard in the USA by which all other manufacturers have adopted NACA charge port.

I expect eventually that NACA will become the standard in Europe dropping CCS.

It will be interesting to see the extra revenue from opening up their superchargers to everyone

As I have said before, I have " no skin in this game " just, as a retired Electrical Engineer, a fascination with the technology, battery chemistry and the evolution of the charging network. I wonder what is going to happen when a Tesla pulls up to a supercharger station and finds all the slots occupied by the " plebs "

My Tesla owning neighbour popped out earlier and said he liked the colour of my new i4.
Cheeky get.

I hadn't realised that - can you post a link for a Tesla to CCS extension that I could use for my ID3?

Thanks!!

You cannot, there are no such things as DC charging extension cables. However all Tesla charge points are CCS standard its simply Tesla haven't opened up all the charge points to all EVs. Is coming soon though, legislation demands it.

Thanks - the issue is that the standard Tesla charging cable doesn't reach round to my charging socket (on the driver's side rear of the ID3).......and I'm a bit nervous about taking up two slots by parking adjacent to the charger so it'll reach. The solution is for me to avoid Tesla charge stations unless they are pretty much deserted.

Nothing. A Tesla checks whether the supercharger has an available slot to pull into. Worst case is that you have to wait 20 mins or so, but given that Tesla Chargers tend to congregate like sheep (you don't tend to find "just one"), the odds are that someone will be leaving soon.

The average Tesla Supercharger Station has 10 stalls. 10, not two or four with two spaces as is common to other EV charger suppliers. A Tesla driver will be shown how many free spots are in the station that they are looking at on the map, so that they can decide which one to go for.

The biggest problem to opening up Superchargers to the rest of us is that they are not designed for the rest of us, they are designed for Tesla. That makes it very difficult to park and use a Tesla Supercharger because that 3m lead only really reaches to a port where the Tesla port is - or if you have a port on the back or front of the car. For all the EV manufacturers you just stuck with "put it where the petrol flap should be" that's a problem.

I'm sure I've read that there's some sort of " parking penalty " to discourage people from leaving their cars in the bay post charge? Not sure what the system is and the economics vs paying for parking elsewhere.
