Nearly all fuel stations I saw, driving from Kettering to Norwich, back through Diss to Bury St Edmunds and home, were rammed.. Even idiots blocking the nearside lane on the A14 & A11 as they risked death by queuing to get into the services.

B St E Tesco was full up and backing up onto the main roundabout at about 21:00 last night..

Still, look on the bright side. I must have earned an extra hour or so in overtime due to the hold ups ^_^

The first I heard of the big crisis was yesterday morning, at the time I had about 150 miles left in the tank but as I travel for work I normally do around 600 miles a week.

On Monday I'm off to Wednesbury, I know I know but someone's got to, so last night I go to my local Tesco and they had nothing. Five minutes up the road is a Shell place, but when I get there all the diesel has gone.

Round the corner is an Esso so I decide that I'll have one more try, when I got there I was straight in with no queueing and I drove off with a full tank.

Much like the Foot & Mouth epidemic here in The Lakes in 2001.

Never did we see a 'pall of dark smoke hanging over the county', in fact we never even saw one fire despite infernoes being plastered across the news.

Also, Kendal town centre was never less than usually busy for the best part of a year that the county was locked down (Fells etc closed).

And yet, the local rag (Westmorland Gazette) had a front page picture of a deserted town as its lead article. The locals reckoned it must have been taken very early in the morning before the town got underway for the day.

Why we put up with our crap media is beyond me. If it bleeds it leads!

There was plenty of piles of burning cows around here . An awful time for beef and dairy with many farms closing up .

I made it back to civilisation last night after some moderate hypermiling. A 1.2 Qashqai pretty much ignores any request for acceleration anyway so it’s not that different in terms of outcome.

It was noticeable that the usually feral stretch of M1 between Leicester Forest East and the start of the variable speed limit at the M6 junction had fewer repmobiles doing 90 in the fast lane.

I typically sail past a queue of them to an empty pump and simply carry the nozzle to the other side of the car, as they are designed to do.

i do the same. No way I’m waiting for ages while a perfectly accessible pump lies unused. It does piss off the guy holding everyone else up but others soon see sense and copy me.

And I'm guessing neither of those jobs require you to sleep in unsavoury lay bys and piss in a bottle?

What is it with these chumps that queue religiously for the pump on the same side as the cars filler? I typically sail past a queue of them to an empty pump and simply carry the nozzle to the other side of the car, as they are designed to do. Do they simply like queuing?
Depends on the pump. My local garage it will not work with my car which is a bit higher than usual.
