Last ZRL (final ) on Tuesday then far more Z2 .

I found 3 hours a week or so ago fine, so will try and repeat this and increase sessions to 3 per week and one race event dropped in

Do you mean 3hrs three times a week? That should do some good.

Z2 ride for me today, did just under 3hrs (target was 2.5 hrs). Felt pretty good.

Rest day tomorrow.

I had an IRL event scheduled for Saturday but unfortunately I put my back out on Thursday and wasn’t up to it. So that was a waste of £25!

I am much better today after taking it easy for a couple of days and did a 90 minute Zwift race as a B Cat with all categories visible.

Got an FTP bump on intervals.icu and my highest hour power for the year so that was nice. I love longer events on Zwift - they’re more of a war of attrition than a burst and recover, and I can really empty the tank which feels simultaneously great and truly awful.

Missing the IRL event has put me behind where I want to be, though so I have some catching up to do now!

Hi Martin
No 3 hours per session at least one of them maybe two sessions.

The rest will be anything from 30 mins to 1.5 hours

I found a few years ago that around 10 hours per week of Z2 really reaped benefits. Tenerife was so comfortable with that base work

It’s been another frustrating week for me

I race with lee on Tuesdays. But this weeks course had such a steep incline at the start, my race was over 500 metres in. And my HIIT session for the week was over before it begun. I finished the race on the premise that anything is better than nothing, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. On Thursday I thought I’d make up for it by joining the bkool chaingang race but in the end work won the argument on that occasion.

This weekend I planned to go out on Saturday for 75 mile ish, but my daughter was unwell, and I didn’t want to do a bunk a leave the missus in the lurch. So all in all another wasted week really. Bob was kind enough to remind me earlier today that there’s only 12 weeks to go before our Pyrenees adventure. And I’m definitely hearing the clock ticking in my head at this point!

So starting tomorrow I’m going to begin to bolt extra miles onto my morning commute. To begin with I’m going to double it from 30 mins to a hour. Lee has told me he’s going to start commuting to work by bike each day (approx 8 miles apparently). So, knowing he’ll also be trying to put in at least one outside ride too, I’ve decided to basically go into competition with him to see who can do the most hours each week. We also basically race exclusively against eachother so our hiit session should mirror eachother too.

I don’t believe lee reads this thread. But I will update each week on a Sunday, as a measuring stick as to my progress, and to see how I am fairing vs the whippet.

12 weeks out I’m definitely not where I aspired to be. But I have to keep looking forward rather than dwelling on missed opportunity!

Good idea to post weekly progress on here. Just gives a little bit more motivation/accountability.

Great idea on the weekly check in.

A decent enough week for me:-

M - 25 minute run (couch to 5k)
T - 2 x 18 mins @ FTP
W - 25 minute morning run & 1hr recovery on bike
T - Splitters race - awful race for me but averaged out at Z3 for an hour so it’ll do
F - 2h Z2 outdoors
S - 3 x 10mims @ FTP
S - 2h Z2 outdoors with a couple of 1 min efforts

On top of that I’m getting in 30 minutes of a walk before breakfast most days - the brighter mornings have helped with the motivation.

And what I’m really happy about is that finally I’m starting to drop the weight after months of trying. The last 4 weeks I’ve finally got my act together in terms of will power so no post dinner snacks, and no comfort eating during the day (work has free pre-packed sandwiches and free chocolate bars and I was guilty of taking a mid morning bar of chocolate just for the sake of it). I’m feeling better on the bike for it so fingers crossed I can keep it up for another month - Mallorca cycling trip is 3 weeks tomorrow.

Excellent work Al. 4-5 kilos is not to be sniffed at. Not sure I could resist the free chocolate given my tendency to buy an m&m’s 🥜 on my journey home . The sooner I can resume the bike commute the better.

Rode my audax event yesterday. It’s quite funny when your form can go from fresh to high risk in a single ride. But that is long distance riding for you. The ride got 440 TSS.

Not surprising that today is recovery , which will involve a walk to WH Smith to collect some printer labels. Rest of week also recovery, back on bike tomorrow, for approx an hour, to do some low cadence drills.
