Building stadiums doesn't mean it's going to be popular. It's being co hosted in the West Indies too, where cricketing popularity has been on the decline for two decades, ironically enough knackered by T20 and players preferring other sports such as football, athletics and basketball.
If a once mighty powerhouse of cricket can't get interest in the game, what chance does the USA have? None. They'll end up with has-been players looking for a payout. A model which kind of works for MLS because at least folk have actually heard of the players.
Anyway, I was having a chat about the lack of crowds with an Indian pal last night. After he'd stopped laughing at me, he pointed out that the BCCI aren't really bothered, such is the money spinner they've created with the IPL. Hard to argue with that now that he's pointed it out.
I suppose it all comes down to personal preference, but I do think the attention span argument is a poor one: folk will happily watch hour after hour of tennis, golf, snooker (off the top of my head).
