We're not faring particularly well against Bangladesh, although their bowling has looked fierce.

Australia have only named their Ashes squad for the first 2 tests .

Are they saying we know some of these guys arent good enough, but we arent sure who is yet?

I honestly don't see the point in this, for either side. It's not competitive, we're not learning anything or trying anything new.

The main entertainment I'm getting from this is laughing at Ireland's baffling field.

Ireland get a few days out a lord's and to be fair they don't get to play much red ball cricket, so all good experience.

For England its better than a squad get together I guess. Root, Stokes and Bairstow have barely played any cricket of late

Root 3 IPL games but didn't get to bat in 2 of those, and Stokes 2 IPL games since NZ series in Feb
JB has had a 2nd XI and 2 4 day games plus one T20 for Yorks since his year out with injury.

Yeah, I get all that.

This may as well be a nets session.

Yes, bit of head scratcher for the selectors, as with Stokes on light duties with the ball (he also looked to have twinged a knee taking a catch) its fairly essential the spinner can keep control at one end, which Leach is good at. Not sure Rehman, Jacks or Livingston have quite that control, or they play an extra seamer and leave spinning duties to Root, although I personally like the balance of having a "proper" slow bowler in there.

Not sure where they go with this one. Leach is no world beater but he does compliment the style played in the Baz Stokes era. Moeen is not that type of control bowler and Rehman is more of an attacking spinner. Dawson might be the closest available. The problem really is Stokes as I don’t think England can carry him through the ashes. If he was fit then you could have different spin options. I’d almost rather he sits on the balcony and we have Curran to cover the all rounder slot.
