One of yesterdays jobs: getting the wood oven ready... We've had a couple of -3°c nights.

We have pushed the "1 Hour" button most days for the last week or so

not needed more yet - the lounge heats up quite quickly and seems to maintain the heat well normally
but we both like cool bedrooms so the upstaits radiators are not even on - except the bathroom one tokeep the towels dry!

My solid fuel stove has been on a couple of afternoon/evenings and an hour of calor gas heater from time to time. No central heating turned on yet. Last year it was early Dec. before the storage heaters went on.

Good God no...
Stat set at 8c, windows open all night and while its wet outside, current temp inside the house 18c.
Must admit, i did feel a bit chilly yesterday, didnt seem to be able to warm up, it became a two jumper day at one stage.

My boiler firing up is my morning alarm. It’s set for 6:00 am but comes on for hot water at 18 seconds past the hour, runs for about eight minutes before the boiler stat cuts out but the pump keeps running for another couple of minutes before it fires again, rinse and repeat with the boiler firing time shortening until the tank stat is satisfied. Amazing what you notice when lying in bed pondering whether to get up yet 😁🤔

Heating not on yet. No gas in this area and we have storage heaters which although large and ugly, are reasonably cheap to run if you're on the right tariff. We haven't been in this house for a winter yet, only moved in in March this year, but so far it's looking pretty well insulated, not like our last house which had single brick wall with no cavity!

I don’t mind them either. Most of the houses in the street have gas in now but I have stuck with the storage heaters. I upgraded them to newer, more controllable ones around 3 years ago. Only currently got the hall one on at low to keep the chill off the air.

They were sat there yesterday in the sheltered accommodation building across the road with their vests on and the windows wide open to let all the heat out when it gets too hot.🧐 That building is an environmental disaster! You can almost see the heat escaping into the atmosphere. Do any of you know Insulate Britain's phone number?🧐

Puzzle game procrastinator!
... but insulting the walls is a huge job
I find standing across the road to hurl abuse at them is the safest bet!

This house isn't very well insulated. It has already been as low as 10 degrees in here this autumn.

What is worse is that there is a cellar under this room. If I leave the air bricks into it unblocked, freezing draughts get into the house. If I block them off, the cellar gets damp. I might try blocking the airbricks and running my dehumidifier down there, but that would probably need lots of power and need emptying several times a day.
