Using an oil filled electric heater & electric blankets. Another month & that probably won’t cut it.

My new apartment always seems warm. I think that maybe because it's new so it had to be insulated to the new standards including triple glazing, and the longest wall backs onto the heating room for the whole house. Either way I've needed nothing more adventurous than long sleeved tops so far.

I get complaints if it doesn't go on. Just an hour in the morning and same early evening at the moment. It's off by 6:30pm as we've noticed the two bedrooms where we extended the boarding of the loft have got much warmer. The other rooms had bording. I've also got addative in the headder tank that needs circulation, and it won't without the heat coming on.

one thing we have both noticed....
We switched from HW permanently on to a quick boost in the morning then on at 6pm till 10pm, which works quite well and does seem to have reduced the gas bill, but its had a moticeable effect on how warm the boiler cupboard and airing cupboard are...or not as the case may be.

Mine is setup the same for HW, got one of those Nest thermostats. Heating was set to hit a certain temp throughout the day . It’s currently in eco mode so not on. It was chilly this morning , about 16.5c . However No1 son had his windows open in the bedroom. I shall be having words lol

We’ve turned down the boiler flow rate from 70 degrees to 55 degrees for the heating circuit and the reduction in heat has allowed the boiler to recover more so we save on gas usage. It means the radiators take a few minutes longer to heat up but interested to see what the savings are in gas usage.

I grew up in a house with no central heating and the whole family survived every winter.^_^

Same here. An entire 3 bedroomed house, with separate dining and sitting room, kitchen, walk-in pantry, hallway big enough to use as an office or a study ... was heated with ONE open fire in the sitting room. Jack Frost drew wonderful curlicued pictures on the inside of the windows overnight ... No wonder most people didn't need a fridge.
We had a pig lamp in the bathroom - oh what a luxury that was considered to be! Before the advent of the pig lamp, there'd been a paraffin heater in there which had to be very carefully attended to, the colour of the flame double-checked regularly and the window had to be kept open, which almost eliminated any warming effect from it. But my parents were very safety-conscious.

Well, I guess many of us had it a bit rough back in the day.

My wife even worse than me.

But now it's 2022 and those days are bad memories and don't need reliving. Nothing good about them

I agree! I keep hearing folk tell us how bad it was. I should know, as I grew up in an Esso Blue and coal fired terraced house in coal polluted damp air, 'dark satanic mills' east Lancashire. Should we 'man up' and accept those conditions again? I think not!
