I did think of this. We are talking about other peoples bikes though, you think I should propose it to them?
What about the cost? We would be talking about £ 15.70 train fare, plus the van and driver fee for the day.

A day hire, someone drives plus 2 passengers and rest on train....
Dunno going rates tho
Assuming no one has or has use of one and would do for petrol money....

Maybe the man with the van fancies a bike ride with lots of Belles? You could offer petrol + a bit more and free cake ;)
There must be people (rather than blokes only) who have vans for their work and are also cyclists ... the question is where to find them ...

We could hire a van, but there would be no place for us to sit!

Pity I don't still work for Saints Transport at the airport or I could have borrowed anything from a van to an artic depending on the numbers of bikes, and riders could have gone by train. But: a) I don't work for them any more, and b) I am working on Saturday! Apart from that it's a great idea .
However there are a number of places from which you could hire a van, or even a 7.5 tonne lorry (which can be driven by anyone with a car licence who passed their test before 1997). Van takes bikes, people take train; job done!

alternatively, if any westies are happy driving rented vans, you can get a van for a day for a reasonable amount (<£100, e.g. Enterrprise do a "medium commercial van" for £88 - I just did a random google search. Not sure how large a van you'd need for 10 bikes, they stack pretty well) ... so if you have enough people to share, then it could be affordable.

Just put the van proposal to the Belles on the website.
Also got a few numbers from Gumtree to phone tomorrow.
The idea of some going in the van is great: forgot a van can also take at least a passenger

Anyway; I'm getting fed up missing out on these weekend rides (Arran and now Stirling) so I think I'm going to propose a midweek jaunt somewhere. Without putting this thread off topic, do we have many shift workers or folks with days off midweek who might be interested? 3 ferries route (Gourock/Dunoon; Colintraive/Rhubodach; Rothesay/Wemyss Bay) or something similar......

Just "like" this post if interested, rather than taking the thread OT.
Right, that's 4 of us already, plus I'm sure Pat can recruit some of her "Belles" and I might get 1 or 2 others to join us. So I'll start a separate thread.

Yes, me. Got a lot of time off till end of August because work is quiet, if I get work it will be mostly weekends.
Working on my speed to be able to keep up with the big boys!
