Seems that everyone has bike problems... :S

I just noticed that our intended cake stop sits right in the middle of that segment!

You'll have to complete it then come back. ^_^

Back away from the rusty steel frame and go out and ride your bike!
If you need to build your confidence on the distance maybe you can manage to get out for a 20m, 30m, and 40m ride between now and then? As for the hills, well that's what rear derailleurs were invented for.

I don't suppose you know any 40ish mile routes with Paisley not being too far away at any given point?

Something along the lines of this:

Bailout options at Johnstone, Port Glasgow, Lochwinnoch and Howwood where you can get the train back to Paisley Gilmour Street if you overdo it. You have the option of extending the ride south to Glengarnock/Kilbirnie or some laps between BoW and Kilbarchan

Route 75 is pretty boring, I can go on it for about 10 miles to Loch Winnoch but after that it just drains the life out of the ride.

That's a pretty good suggestion.

For some more hillclimbing training, I'd suggest something like this.

Yeah it can be quite tedious after the hundredth time or so of doing it, the key to riding that stretch of NCN7 is to settle into a rhythm nice and early.

There are some beastly wee climbs along the sides of the Uplawmoor/Neilston valley but they're mostly farm roads so I don't know what kind of state they'll be in.

Is anyone planning on riding to Ardrossan on the 6th? I'll be staying in Kilbarchan the night before so it's probably easier for me to cycle to the ferry than to work out train timings.
