Recently replaced my rather high mileage VW Caravelle T5.1 with a younger T6 Shuttle version, which has meant a few updgrades:
Headlamp bulbs changed to Philips GT+ 200, interior lamps fitted with leds, battery replaced as it was the original and showing signs of failing.
On Thursday we set off on a 950 mile round trip to collect a new bike for my wife, just under 300 miles, as we turned off the M61 in there was a noticeable vibration when at about 45mph, thought it was a wheel weight thrown off or similar.
Stopped off at
Van-King in Bacup to get a bed system installed, then continued south. The vibration was worse, most noticeable when accelerating from 40-50+ during the many roadwork sections on the M6 and M5. Overnight stop at Bridgewater and I thought I'd better investigate. The O/S driveshaft inner CV was making a rather ominous click/rattle when I grabbed it. The MOT history showed that the CV gaiter had been replaced a couple of years ago. Obviously the CV joint had cried enough. New driveshaft ordered whilst sitting in the hotel, hopefully for delivery today.
Next day, continued to Axminster, then a brief trip to Seaton on the Jurassic Coast, then headed home. The vibration was getting worse, still predominantly at 40-50 mph, though there was some signs of it at 60mh. Lots of roadworks, stop/start traffic queues on the M6 at Birmingham just to add to the stress on me and the drivetrain. Arrived home having travelled 500 miles with a definitely poorly van.
Delighted to see DPD pull up outside on Saturday morning with a large and heavy parcel. New driveshaft from
J&R who had informed me that a Saturday courier deliver was not available, however DPD driver said they like to clear their feet if possible for Monday, so an unexpected bonus for me. Driveshaft was replaced on Saturday afternoon on the drive outside my garage, and a successful test drive showed all was good.
BTW the Van-King bed system works really well with the
