By then, the weight of the car on the ramp has increased the static friction enough to keep the ramp in place.
Hopefully yes, though not always in my experience.

I'm assisting ( which probably means doing) a service on a 2013 Pug 107 on Saturday, grandaughters car.
Oil, filters and plugs.
I haven't even lifted the bonnet as yet, no problems to be aware of are there ? Access to bits etc ?

Access is superb.

You'll need a 10mm socket to remove the coil packs in order to access the plugs.

All done in about 30 minutes, piece of cake.
She brought the car earlier this year after damaging her Aygo, not in great condition for a 13 plate but reliable so far. Engine oil was very dirty looking....

Depends on the cause. Might not be too spendy, or could be easily enough to make the car a financial write off. Brake pipes and binding brake probably not going to be too painful.

Comes down to thr ABS abd ESC warning lights, which are probably the same problem. With luck a wheel sensor, if luck is out to lunch then faulty ABS pump/electronics.

Why did he even bother wasting £50 odd on an MOT with such an obvious fail?

Thats potentially a wheel sensor and cost of either replacing corroded brake lines. £150

Finally finished the oil and filter service on my Leon, I did intend doing it all on Saturday afternoon but only got the air filter replaced as when I came to undo the top of the oil filter housing I found it needed a 32mm socket..... whereas my socket set only had an empty space for a 32mm socket. Cak! Had a search for it in the places it was likely to be, but to no avail. I tried an adjustable spanner (after removing most of the airbox trunking), then a set of water pump pliers but it wasn't going to shift, so it had to wait until I purchased a new socket from Halfords on Sunday morning. All done on Monday evening with a fresh filter and sump full of golden oil. Its ages since I did a car service myself, I just got into the habit of dropping it off at my usual garage near work. But at about ninety quid cheaper it's worth the bother.

Re the ABS and ESC lamps, as you say, it cam be the same problem and may even be not related to either ABS or ESC. Mine automatically lit up when I got misfires. I hear even oddly worn tyres can cause similar.
It may be OP would benefit from a code reader, might highlight temporary or low level issues.

Indeed. These systems can be voltage sensitive too, so an o,d battery might still start the car fine but certain subsystems detect the slightly lower voltage and have a grump.
