wish me luck Saturday. will be attempting to get Mother unit's annual state auto inspection sticker

my parents always made it a giant ordeal, bringing it to the stealership & giving them carte blanche. I will NOT be doing that. I MIGHT get an oil change, in addition to the sticker, but the sticker is the goal

just heard from family boots-on-the-ground, they are handling the car inspection ... yay!

I hate illogical things, I bought a spare set of camshaft covers & inlet manifold, got them powder coated & fitted them over the last couple of nights with new seals, then of course the car then wouldn't start, went over all the wiring that I'd unclipped to see if they weren't home. It would crank but not run, then occasionally there was a backfire, so it had to be timing, checked the crank sensor which I hadn't moved. At the back of the camshaft cover is a sensor, so cleaned up the area where it sat of powder coat just in case it was making the gap too large, but still not starting. However just by chance I was pressing down on it & moved it slightly, the car fired & rang for a few seconds, holding it at a slightly turned from where it should fit it would allow the car to run but it still wasn't right. I do however have another kit with exactly the same engine in that is not fully built yet, so stole that sensor fitted it & hurray all was good again. But this is the annoying bit, I put the 'broken' one back in the other car only to find that one runs perfectly with it in

That’s a sad old BMW E36 in the background
Still goes well or rather it did, but currently no camshafts in it, tappets were getting noisy, just not got around to finishing it

You can come fetch it if you want it's very blunt, wouldn't even scrape powder cost

I had a 'bit of bother' recently with my Rickman Ranger blowing the head gasket. Long story short the head was cracked, so I had to find another head (not easy for a 2.0L Pinto engine. Fast forward a few weeks and I'd re-assembled everything, so time to try it. It wouldn't start, and a second battery was brought into play with jump leads, still no joy. As the battery is in the rear (and it's a LWB) I suspected a voltage drop. As it was getting late I gave up and put batteries on charge. Next day it was turning over fast enough, but still no joy, and delving deeper I identified spark was ok, but removing a plug..... bone dry. Looked into carb and operated throttle to find fuel 'squirt' wasn't there. Hmm.... don't want to take carb apart! Check fuel to carb, tick. I used the bike track pump on the fuel inlet...... a healthy push, and fuel vapour everywhere. The throttle jets must have been blocked due to fuel 'gumming' with non-usage? Ran sweet after that. Bike pumps are good.^_^

Nearly got stranded by the Qashqai earlier. Popped to the beach so MrsF could have her second sea swim of the day with the local group. As it was 7pm it was a bit chilly so sat in car with radio on for 45 mins.

Car didn't start. Fortunately someone in the group had jump leads and car fired first time. £100 for an Excide Premium battery isn't too bad. The car is on it's original 11 year old battery. Can't complain.

Only issue is the nav system wants a code now, and its not in the Nissan documents as the boxes haven't been filled in. Grr.

£5 via ebay seller (once you lock the unit you get the serial number and various codes). Pass on codes via ebay, and vola, nav system code returned. Just got 5 more minutes for the lock to expire, then can put code in. Down side is key needs to be left in for an hour, so the car has been blocked in by another.
