Has anyone involved in this thread actually ever been in fight?

Why dont you just all get your top trumps cards out you bunch of spotters.

I personally have a gammy arm, and have to use the other arm to compensate, to the extent that I get debilitating RSI in that one. I have problems enough riding a bike yet alone fighting.

I have however been beaten up about 15-20 times, because I have to use mental acuity and verbal dexterity to deal with people rather than violence, and they don't like that.

I once got kick-boxed around the head by some expat english nutter bouncer in a bar in spain. Didn't hurt.

True!

a guy I know is really easy going he trains in 3 different MAs and he works as a bouncer. He gets paid very good money for this as he is a professional but people still try and "have a go" with him. ;)

Why is that?

I have had that a few times with a few twats. I just walk away. I get jeered by the drunken arse in question but, in the end, and I hope this doesn't sound like a boast, I could make a mess of him as it's usually some wee git, 5.5 ft tall, a few beers and trying to prove how macho he is in front of his burd/mates or both.

So, I am right.

You have not trained in any martial arts or boxing so you have no idea what you are talking about. Thought so. You sound exactly like those guys I mentioned earlier. See a few movies, have a few beers and think they can take on anyone.

Hey Charlotte.

Don't rise to the bait. That's what he wants.

You are right in thinking that you are as right as you ever will be.

I can't fight, and I'm glad because it just gets you into trouble. I can take as good a kicking as anyone though, and laugh it off next day.

The guy who did a kick move on me in spain did take me by suprise, but I could tell he was more suprised for having done it. He was basically showing off. And it didn't hurt.

A boxer I used to work with gave me a little punch after a bit of goading, and I can still feel it in my stomach. I was like being hit by an asteroid.

Well why did you say in an earlier post that you knew what you were talking about then?

I found this, might be of interest -

Wow!!!! Fantastic.

Ultimate respect to that boxer going in the ring with someone at least 2 stone heavier and about 5 inches taller than him, with correspondingly longer arms and legs.

Lennox Lewis would have boringly made the whole spectacle last about 1 second, much to the disappointment of the people sorting the money out.

Back to the original subject, It wasn't the BBC interview Joe Calzaghe said it in... but can't find it now.

I either read it in the Mirror, Sunday Times or Nuts magazine.

In the meantime the original assertion still stands. Any professional boxer, in the world today, could take any, *any* martial arts expert.

I have a bit of first hand knowledge of boxing, and as much as I'd like to agree, I'd have to say you're talking shite Arbitary. I'm sure there would be exceptions but I reckon a pro boxer against a pro martial artist of the same weight and experience would result in embarassment for the boxer. I certainly wouldn't want to come up against someone who knows a bit martial arts, and I certainly wouldn't be bragging about having them like Joe 'meat-heed' Calzaghe. But in an effort to keep the peace here you go.

Although I agree with Charlotte that no martial artist would willingly use their skills in some pathetic brawl in the street, neither would most boxers. They may not have the written rules of conduct like martial arts, but it's by no means a sport of thuggery. I've seen boxers from my brothers club walk away from fights, guys that in the past would have stabbed you as soon as look at you. A lot of boxing clubs in this country exist in areas of deprivation and are used as a means of getting young violent kids off the street in an effort to teach discipline and respect, and it works.
