Bruce Lee was a boxer and practiced martial arts with and without weapons.

Exactly......and he was brought up as a street fighter in his younger days...so he was used to rough n tumble......it wouldn't even be close...he would utterly destroy McGuigan.

You cannot put Hulk Hogan and Steven Seagal in the same league as Bruce Lee. That is just astonishingly ignorant.

Whilst I make no excuses for the quality of Mr Seagal's acting, he is an exceptional martial artist in his own right, and the first "Westerner" to open a dojo in Japan.
I'd stake my house on him in a fight against Calzaghe.

No-one has faced the handbag of doom and lived to tell the tale.

Be afraid, be very afraid:ohmy::ohmy:

So, are we agreed then?

My granny could beat the crap out of any boxer or martial artist.

This thread is funny.....
Chuck Norris would beat Calzaghe...so would John Saxon....so would Bolo Yeung.
This is getting silly.
Bruce Lee would beat McGuigan using one arm and one leg.
A Thai boxer or Burmese boxer would utterly destroy McGuigan.
They are supreme athletes and their mindset is set on one thing alone...victory...and to beat their oponent.

Joe Calzaghe is an exceptional athlete but he would never think of biting off part of my face, jamming his thumbs into my eyes or grappling me to the floor.

Boxers are trained to win boxing matches, they are trained to perform within a set of rules, they are not trained for combat. If boxing were the most effective way of defeating an opponent then it would be the only form of hand to hand combat taught to troops.

I notice you have conceded, by exclusion of mentioning her, that my granny could beat them all.

Her mind is on one thing - complete annihilation. Forget victory, for that is a foregone conclusion...

Why did Joe Calzaghe, on TV, in that interview recently after he won the world championship, say that he could take *any* martial artist.

This is coming from a deadly serious man who finds Ricky Hattons showboating distasteful.

If both fighters were to fight within their own professions rules, I think a MA would win on flexability and stratagy alone. Boxers are mainly about power. But, Who would win over a wrestler and a MA?

Me too. However, I am very pleased to say that I talked my way out the last time. Unfortunately this meant a very uncomfortable few hours during which I had to drink with my attacker and his mates. But that beats being bottled, certainly scarred for life (and possibly killed...)

I did many years of judo, some aikido and several years of kung-fu. However my best assets are still, and probably always will be, my quick thinking and my running speed... real fighting is very stupid and dangerous however you have trained and whatever you think you know.
