At last. Some proper anecdotal proof.

And exacly what I am trying to say. A professional boxer deals in KO.

A martial artist deals in avoiding boxers.

Why do you not see your average martial artist just stepping into the ring with a boxer... for money.

They should have a go if they think they're hard enough.

Its the rules that limit them,in what they are allowed to do,if they were allowed only to punch, then the boxer would win,as the MA,does a lot more training on other things,so it wouldnt be a MA the boxer is up against. But then,if the boxer was only allowed to kick?,well.... you see my point?
As for a rock of a punch, there will be some in all sports or MA,that have that ability.I was at a tournament a long time ago,and one of the overall winners, got there by punching their apponent in the chest, with body armour worn too,and was knocking them out that way, thats a good solid punch,to be able to do that, even more so,when body armour is worn,so i think having a boxer who can hit like that,is not the proof your looking for:smile::blush:

Why do people like fighting? Some like doing it, some like watching it.

In a bar room brawl the victory would go to the person with the hardest first punch or the ability to get someone down quickly, eg. with a good kick to the inside knee. I suspect the boxer would have the edge on punching speed and power, but the MA fighter might be a better alround bet once the Queensbury rules were forgotten.

Dont get me wrong,i have the greatest of respect for boxers, but the question was who i may prefer,in a given situation, and my choice was based on that.
Again, judo is not at the front of our minds in these situations, but i witnessed a judo player, stopping a scene getting very ugly,as a thug leant over him, threatening, the judo player snapped a sleeper on him,and within fifteen seconds, the thug was asleep,it wasnt expected, and because its a silent technique, there was no shouting his mates over,so an escalation was everted. My point being, there doesnt have to be fisticuffs or kicking,to stop an attack, there are other ways too.Which is where MA can help.

Thai Boxers also deal in KO's. I have knocked out and have been knocked out.

I too have been KOed for your information.

In the west end in about 1993 after a few too many cocktails I was phoning directory enquiries for something, and some 6'4'' twat was knocking on the door saying 'who you phoning'. I said 'your mother'.

I can still see his fist heading towards my face in slow motion. I woke up about 5 minutes later with a load of fit girls cradling me and asking if I was alright. I thought i had died and gone to heaven.

Abitrary you really make me laugh!

Even though ive only been training in Shotokan karate for 4 years, what i do know is that no true humble martial artist of what ever style would ever want to put themselfs in the situation of testing out their "fighting skills" for real on purpose!, as thats just pure ego talking there, & being a complete idiot:angry:

 YOU do martial arts?:eek: Well what happens if you get pregnant ? Well you'd stop, obviously.

When I lived in Australia my cousin knew a guy who was "golden gloves" champion of Queensland at boxing. I was at a party one night and someone in the Rugby League team he played with kept giving him hassle. This went on all night until the bloke ran at "Golden Gloves"...I was standing next to him and was convinced he was going to get a good kicking, but he punched this other guy once (I saw the end of the punch but not the start and remember almost in slow motion that he turned his fist at the point of contact) which resulted in an almost hollywood flying backwards against a door reaction, slowly slumping to the floor.

I also used to go drinking in the same pub as Jeff Fenech when I was in Australia - really nice guy, but I was always glad he thought I was a good bloke.

This begs a question. What is your point?

Are you talking about brawls in the middle of the street caused by you being pissed or in a ring/dojo/competiton hall between people who train in the sport?

You seem to be flitting in between the two types.

If you'd said 1990-1991 that might have been me!

My being beaten up at intervals throughout my childhood and adult life has indeed left me angry.

I just like the idea of a british hero sportsman like Joe Calzaghe taking on the martial art weirdos for the working class guys without the muscles or the voice.

Again I ask.

What has someone's class got to do with this?

And another point I would like to make, if it is childhood bullying you are on about I would like to say a few things. I was bullied as a kid hence the reason i did take up martial arts also you cannot blame the entire martial arts community for what happened to you. There are a lot of us who are 'working class' and a lot of us, like me , who refuse to put ourselves in a 'class'.
