Sounds like a lot of fun. It all sounds a bit posy.

Every *single* person who I have ever met in my life who does martial arts has been a bit, aherm, "special".

If I wanted to do chinese arts, I'd do origami or something, but my RSI would probably preclude that.

Every single boxer I've met has been salt of the earth working class straight up.

Also not the sort of people to use a proper skill in anger, but if pressed knock absolute crap out of any martial artist.

Sorry but you are talking bollocks! ;)

Origami is Japanese you twonk!

Abitrary you really make me laugh!

Even though ive only been training in Shotokan karate for 4 years, what i do know is that no true humble martial artist of what ever style would ever want to put themselfs in the situation of testing out their "fighting skills" for real on purpose!, as thats just pure ego talking there, & being a complete idiot:angry:

This quote here explains the attiude you should have if you are a true & humble martial artist, compared with the bullsh*t you talk of! ;)

"Refrain From Violent Behavior

Control
A trained fighter is a person with a fierce competitive spirit and great strength so it is unfair to use it against an untrained person. The karate-ka's spirit is unbeatable and must use his knowledge only for the sake of justice. A person of character can walk away from a fight because he is in control of his emotions and is at peace with himself. He does not have to test his abilities on the street. He wins without fighting and he will have no regrets because no one will be injured. Refraining from violent behavior is hard to explain to many Westerners because of their environment, or the attitude of winning tournaments, and they want to do it as quickly as possible which is against the principles of karate-do and dojo kun. It is therefore necessary for instructors to constantly remind the students of the importance of the dojo kun."

If both fighters were to fight within their own professions rules, I think a MA would win on flexability and stratagy alone. Boxers are mainly about power. But, Who would win over a wrestler and a MA?

Wrestlers are quite bulky and so the weight thing is inevitably coming into this.

A wrestler like Giant Haystacks would cream a *hollywood martial artist* like hulk hogan with a single blow

Some of you are talking sense, some of you are still talking like kids in the playground

Fighting is stupid

Full stop

Strangely enough its the ones who have had to experience violence first hand that talk the most sense

True!

a guy I know is really easy going he trains in 3 different MAs and he works as a bouncer. He gets paid very good money for this as he is a professional but people still try and "have a go" with him. ;)

Why is that?

Barry McGuigan would beat Bruce Lee in a contest where *no* weapons, numchuks, ninja stars etc. are allowed... and both had to wear boxing gloves.

I think your missing the point A,Bruce lee was a well known fighter before his movie times, they had interclub contests,to see whos style was more efective,it was these that brought about jeet kune do,of lees own design,in answer to inaffective techniques that he tried before. He was a very aggressive and fast fighter, there was video footage of him in a contest, where they needed to slow the film,to actually be able to see how many times he struck his apponent. He trained obsessively in all ways,to improve power, speed, and above all technique. The use of gloves wouldnt change the fact, that he would probably have hit an apponant several times, before they could have reacted to avoid the onslaught. His life was fighting technique, but he actually practiced them, and improved on them,to the point that he was a very effective fighter, that few could have bettered. His weapons were mainly for films,he didnt use them in fighting contests. But as training aids,to help coordination, and focus, speed, and again, the important one, technique.I seriously doubt, that as good as mcguigan was,he probably wouldnt have beaten him.

Cos they are knobs who have watched a few boxing matches on the TV and Bruce Lee movies and think they are hard when they have had a drink. They also probably have small dicks. And fat burds. ;) (so in this there is little difference between them and all boxers and martial artists really :o)

At last. Some sense being talked by a martial artist. I agree totally that women should be allowed to do it, because it is more gentle than boxing, and is less likely to damage a womans fertility.

Any man considering his base motives and instincts for wanting to do a violent sport, will come to the conclusion that it is a desire to look hard. Only boxing can fulfill this. Why dont you get ladies boxing?
