Right, finally going to buy my CX Comp this week since no other CXs seem to be as good value. None of the stores in Southampton have one in so I'm going to have to wait for it to be shipped and built, but is it worth me going into store to buy it rather than online (ie. will they install the mudguards etc if I go in and ask!)? Can anyone recommend a decent pair of flat pedals to go with it or should I attempt clipless?

Tip- when collecting your bike try to secure some time to do a some bike fit and set-up.
  • Seat height and angle
  • Reach is comfortable- if you want handlebars higher - flip the head stem, rotate the bar to adjust for the profile you want.
  • Check both front and rear brakes are not rubbing by spinning them and listening in for rubbing
  • Check gears are shifting correctly.

Ordered mine  will pick up on Tuesday! Didn't go for mudguards as I'm not sure which to get.Elliott - it comes with pedals but they've got toe clips, the only reason I'm going to change mine is that I prefer flats for commuting to work each day. Give the brakes a go, I had similar ones on my last bike and they seemed alright, it's just that the BB5s and BB7s are better! As long as the bike does what you want and is reliable then that's the main thing.

Right, I've finally picked up my CX Comp. Takes a bit of acceleration from the lights but then it's a delight to ride. Have just spent an hour trying to put lights on and now have the fun task of putting flat pedals on. Just not sure if I want to change the tyres and add mudguards yet!

Hi had cx for 3 weeks cycle to work and play weekends done about 400miles on it. Great bike good all rounder certainly gives the racers a run for the money and it totally wipes out my hybrid corratec. Its had some bad press due to cosmetic paint cracks but dont let it put u off love it to death.

thanks ollie, helps alot
one final question - the cx has 2 levers in the middle of the handle bar? are these the brake levers or extra with brake levers also where the gear shifters are?

From what i can gather (i've been looking at this bike on-and-off for the last week or so), they are extra brake levers for when you are riding on the tops

Small up-date: 5 weeks on and have burnt through a set of rear brake pads- this isn't normal, although it has been through a lot of grit and mud and the rear just seems to pick it up more. I'm going to give the lyra brakes a chance- the front has been strong and has worn evenly even though it gets more use than the rears. So I'm going to order some harder wearing ceramic metal pads for the rear- once setup right they do work alright.

I'm thinking too a new saddle might be on the cards.....

Mine's got a lot more comfy, I guess it was the switch from a hybrid that got to me. Still yet to put my flat pedals on as I'm missing the right spanner! Most annoying things currently are the horrible rubbing noise I get when I use the brakes and the uselessness of the gears - it's constantly clattering and pinging when I try to change down in particular.
