Mine's got a lot more comfy, I guess it was the switch from a hybrid that got to me. Still yet to put my flat pedals on as I'm missing the right spanner! Most annoying things currently are the horrible rubbing noise I get when I use the brakes and the uselessness of the gears - it's constantly clattering and pinging when I try to change down in particular.

The brakes you'll get use to and should settle down after bedding in. Best to double check, my rear pads wore at an angle it meant i had to bin them before the end of their useful life. I'm getting the same with gears, Im fine -tuning now it till i get the right feel- to be expected after initial cable stretch. Big headache for me is not sure if I have a stiff chain link or badly align front derailleur, every now and them the chain jams against something and i have to pedal back then forward to release.

i ordered a old version of team cx. i was lucky as the staff in hedge end store kindly helped me find one medium size somewhere in the country. with lots of discount, it ended up just a bit more than 600. very pleased with that. only one thing the old version doesnt come with pedal. any recommends?

Im new here too, great forum.

I've been looking for a new bike for years, this is the one........I think, I have a super comfy commuter, its fat, heavy and getting very old but so comfy to ride, I do 20 miles a day to and from work. For the last 2 weeks I borrowed a 2012 Boardman Road Comp to get used to a harder ride, but this is breaking me, I have reserved a CX Team, last years models last of the stock from the dreaded Halfords, got it discounted to £725 RRP £999, but I'm still having a job convincing myself to go for it, meant to collect it tomorrow!!!!!! No money changed hands yet so still have an option to pull out. Is the ride going to be much softer on the CX than the road? and will I loose the speed from the road to the CX, Id be interested in you opinions before I have to commit.

Decisions, decisions!!!!!!!

Would say it depends on the tires as both are rigid forks. The Road Comp has 25/28c tyres? the CX has 35c, it would be more comfortable but you would probably still it is harsh versus your commuter. I changed back to 45c from a 32c tyre on my hybrid commuter for the wet/cold weather and it's like riding a stage coach on the tow paths. Ultimately the CX makes more sense as it accepts a wider range of tires than the road bike.

so i'm thinking of getting this bike but will i have to be tightening the brake cables and what are the fixes to slow gear changes? i dont have the tools but can easily take it to my LBS each month or so if this will keep the bike running smoothly

Most bike shops would do a 6 week service for free. Best to learn how to do the basics of bike maintenance to save a few quid

3 months Up-date: Finally got the drive chain elements working the way I would like them to, Halfords set up the rear derailleur wrong. The bottom limit screw was set so that chain would just roll off, but the gear cable was over tighten to bring it back across on the rear cogs. Once sorted the rear gears shifted very cleanly and reliably, the Sora shifters does need a heavy finger to operate in some instances, but thats to be expected in the pecking order of groupsets. Brakes once aligned work well, not super great, the rear caliper is prone to be knocked out of alignment as it sits on the chain stay- I would still probably upgrade the brakes at some point in the future, but both the shimano and TRP mechanical disc brakes were subject to recalls. Overall it's acting as the perfect weekday commuter mule and a weekend blast around, only thing that really needs to be fine tuned is the hood/bar angles, may need to add more padding, journeys longer than 30 mins I get achey hands

Purchased CX Comp on Friday, started to build and noticed the dreaded paint crack at seat post junction on non drive chain side of bike, as many 2014 CX Team owners have reported. Pick up another Saturday.

I have been following this post on CX Comp which helped me with my purchase, apparently my CX Comp is the first reported/known at the Halfords branch in Plymouth.

Deliberating on what to do now as I am having doubts about my purchase and keen to know if current/earlier CX Comp owners have found the same fault and just living with it?

Can't fault Halfords response to resolve the problem though, see what happens when I inspect replacement bike on Saturday.

Hi jp2fast4u, I work in the maidenhead branch of halfords and can say we did get a recall notice for the cx teams about 2-3 months ago, With the problem now being sorted I believe. However we've never experienced the same issue with cracking in the filler/paintwork on the comp models. I don't think you should let this put you off, as I think it can be classed as a hiccup in a new range realise, most brands have them in at least one model in the range. Also the bike is good value and is very good looking! So much so that I started a thread about potentially buying one! (This thread). The only reason I didn't is because I already own a road bike, so decided to go full spectrum and buy a mountain bike instead. Hope this post kinda helps, not quite sure how though... Aha.

No cracked paint, there was one scratch on the down tube when I had mine delivered, but not too bothered as the bike will be thrown about. Fine bike, but would start recommend saving for better brakes. I've had no problems with the front as such apart from a clicking noise, the rear is a nightmare. I ride muddy trails and tow paths and the lower chain stay mounted rear caliper picks up all the crud. I've tighten and readjusted them more times than I would like and now the spring is popping out of its notch when I I get the torque arm tight to the right feel and squeezing the brake lever as hard as i can. I think I'm giving up on this and getting a bb7, last ditch I've taken the Tektro Lyra brake caliper apart and going to relube everything. Pic to those interested what an exploded brake caliper looks like:

I am having problems with the rear brake as well. I can get it set up quite well, adjustment wise, i just cant get the lever to return to its normal position properly. It feels quite sloppy as though there isnt any tension there. The front is great and snaps right back. Is there a tension spring or anything on thec aliper that can be adjusted to return the lever, and so the moving caliper back to its home position?

Many thanks in advance.
