I use Sainsbury’s Iron tablets, one a day, the old haemoglobin test drops like an iron brick in the test tube .

I have been taking Ferrous Fumerate for over 6 months as prescribed my the GP

I presume that should be the same or better??

Anyway I will follow what the doc says for a while

can use Sainsbury's anyway - they don;t have then here - too posh for the like of us
no Waitrose either

Pretty amazing there's a 'Blood Donation' thread on a cycling forum, cheers folks!
I donated on Tuesday and attempted a ride today, so ~4days afterwards and felt pretty low on energy.
The nurse said about 2 weeks until red blood count was normal. Is that what others expect ?

That’s not my experience, but everyone is different, I often do a ride on the same day, sometimes I ride to and from the donation.

No joy with today's attempt at donoring due to low haemoglobin. 123 g/l instead of the minimum of 135 g/l..
Next donation us booked for October but I've been advised to get a blood test with Daktari in September to check if I need summat done.
Meanwhile, I'll eat more spinach etc..
Shame if I have to stop after 70 pints but if I do.. So it goes.

I've never noticed any after effects at all. In the past I have cycled to and from the donation centre, and done other exercise in the afternoon - though that was 25+ years ago now.

I haven't actually donated since leaving Merthyr Tydfil at the end of 2019. I haven't seen any posters or other adverts for a session. I should be more proactive about that.

There is a booking thingy - link here - although sometimes you have to book ahead to travel a bit if you are not in a city

I'm still not allowed and have blood tests every few months as it won;t go up in spite of taking tablets
so going is actually good for you as it can point out problems before they develop symptoms
