Anyone concerned about their insurance premium rocketing when @brand gets his bike nicked can relax.

No policy I know of will pay out on an unlocked bike, particularly outside the home.

You really must read what I wrote before posting :-

"I live rural where people leave the bikes unlocked even in town. When I go the pub in the village there is bikes all over the place some times left unlocked for weeks. I leave the bike in the yard in the back of the pub. There is often people grooming horses there, the landlady has the kitchen door open most of the time and can see it through the door. She pass it regularly to fetch food from the freezer and veg from the store. I can see it from the bar. I don't bother locking it!!"

This is the one pub only that I don't lock it up and the NFU manager (who drinks in the same pub) has never picked me up on that. And I am fairly certain that if I took my bike out of the garage and someone nipped up my drive while I nipped into get my wallet the insurance NFU would pay out.... wherever I told him I had left it unlocked or not.

No need to be so combative - I couldn't give a stuff whether you lock your bike or not.

As you have pointed out many times, that is up to you.

I hope for your sake NFU will pay out on an unlocked bike.

My bike is on the house policy and it has to be tethered at all times, inside or out.

To be fair to this insurer, they didn't seem bothered about the type of lock which I understand many companies are.

You did claim me and my "ilk" were costing you money in higher insurance claims even though I have only ever put in 1 claim in 30 + years ago for a flood.
Now let me explain this to you, if I want to leave my bike unlocked that is my business or put another mind your own business.
"Its people like you who will end up whinging when it gets stolen"
silly silly little man give it up I will leave my bike unlocked if I want and you have no right to criticise me for doing so unless you are perfect??
Grow up and move on.
Yawn, I'm the silly one yet you routinely leave your £1200 bike unlocked guarded only by a barmaid's casual visits for the frozen peas?? Again a certain irony

I'll criticise anyone whose rationale is as thick as yours

Oh yeah and I ain't little..........

I suspect your bikes might be more pampered than mine.

The fact remains that some areas are populated by a high density of thieves (Liverpool, for example), whereas others are not. I feel safe not locking stuff.
