Football is off tonight, due to “the safety of players and spectators”........There is a tiny dusting of snow on the ground. Health & Safety gone mad!
So you think it’s OK to encourage people to travel unnecessarily ? That’s what they mean . We cancel the match we are not going to encourage people to drive /travel when they shouldn’t .

The reason trains were cancelled this morning was the risk of damaging points and track which despite having heaters to stop freezing are not operating at the optimum temperature . The motors and solenoids can’t drive through the grease when it’s almost solid . But no we must run trains despite the fact if one gets stranded because the points have failed the whole service stops.. rather than dealing with risk to services.

Yes Canada runs trains in winter . Maybe they have kit that is better suited to that climate . I don’t know ...

Got to eat me words tonight. 1.5 hours nose to tail crawling traffic for the whole 7.5 mile drive home.
Woodhead pass traffic diverting thru a tiny town not made for 40+ ton trucks.
Roads covered over and gritters stuck in the jams.

There's always the manual option.

Who are all these people travelling unnecessarily? Have they got free bus passes and no jobs?
Going to football is essential travel ...

People taking the pee but some people have died because they couldn’t drive safely in the snow.

Well that caught me out.....

It's been snowing on and off all day here but no big deal. Took son #1 to youth club at six o'clock and it was snowing heavily. But it was just like a few showers earlier in the day. Dropped him off, still snowing heavily. By the time I got almost home it was really heavy snow, couldn't get up the hill back to the house. Tried a different road but that was impossible, still snowing really heavily and car wouldn't make it.

Had to abandon the car about half a mile from home and walk back. Then I had to walk to the youth club to pick up son #1 and then walk back. The road we are on is impassable except for 4x4 and more snow due. Tomorrow could be a snow day for the entire household unless the road gets well treated overnight

A shock, a shock, he says. I mean the BBC have been all over this like a rash and still it's a shock. Right now there are Polar Bears crossing from the Arctic in search of colder weather and soon it won't be safe to walk to the youth club. It'll make the sheep incident seem like a jolly jape by comparison. Those patio doors won't save you.

I traversed the country twice today, east coast to west coast and back again, buses and trains running on time, snow barely deep enough to measure at any point on the journey, sunny and dry with light winds.
Why do the media bother to broadcast forecasts for more than 48 hours ahead, I ask:sad:
