Tesla cut prices last month cutting thousands from the Model 3 and Model Y. This has put pressure on the former ICE manufacturers to do likewise or lose more market share. Tesla have the most advanced car by far. Test drive a few EVs and you will see just how far ahead they are.

My friend who run an ICE thinks the build quality and interior is iffy, he test drove virtually everything and bought the BMW i4.

I think that's a fair comment. The build quality has improved a lot, but some of the interior could do with work.
On the other hand both the 3 and the Y are designed to be "affordable" cars (they aren't in the UK) and not luxury cars like the BMW i4.

I couldn't find out much about the tech in the BMW i4 but I suspect it's still an order of magnitude behind Tesla. And for me it's the tech wot wins it.

Why reduce tax on what has been up till now a item for the middle class club? That's not helping the poor. Just lining the pockets of those with money! They are already subsidised by not paying VED or fuel duty!
Ask all the other countries doing it. Maybe they are experiencing the worlds hottest temperatures and are really moving to get people out of gas guzzlers into machines that will reduce emissions. In other countries these cars aren't for the middle class club. A Tesla 3 in the USA is about £12,000 cheaper than here.

Didn't Musk order the price drop so that more of "his vehicles" would be eligible for an EV subisdy(In the US). Thereby maintaining his share of the market?

And generally to sustain growth. But - price drops are good. That still doesn't explain away why Tesla are so expensive in the UK. We are the 10th most expensive place in the world to buy a Tesla.

The large price cuts have pressured Tesla's automotive gross margin, a closely watched indicator in the industry, but Musk has said Tesla would sacrifice margin to drive volume growth. As an example, Tesla this year cut U.S. prices of its Model Y long-range version by a quarter to $50,490.

Toyota are in dire trouble in China. They cant sell their BZ 4X EV, keep reducing price to as low as $19k and they still aren't selling.

They sold only 3000 EVs in 7 months in China.

They have lost 25% of their market share in China in a year

Come 2024, vast majority of Toyota ICE cars wont meet the new emissions levels.

Armageddon looming

That's what happens when you put your fingers in your ears. They decided not to invest and their BZ4X EV isn't exactly blowing away the competition. It's a fairly average SUV which can't compete with a Tesla Y.

Perhaps because they were focusing on hydrogen too much?
