Are we being forced to go electric?

If you have an EV and you need to charge it you are going to have to find a working EV charger that’s not occupied. Being interested in EV ownership I joined some EV forums and all of them were saying finding a working charger that’s not occupied was a problem. Unless the charger situation expands rapidly with all these new EVs owners they may be in for a shock.

I only ever need to charge my car on holiday away from home.

Did it last week. Had to charge three times. Never had to wait and didn't see anyone having to wait either.

Used EVs are apparently cheaper than used petrol cars of the same age and similar power output (although, given that most EVs are ludicrously* overpowered, this may be a skewed comparison). Anyway, if you're willing to take a punt on remaining battery capacity, a nearly-new ID3 or e-Golf seems a cheap way in.

*literally, for some Teslas

The key point there is 'more than 40 years old'.

In the 1960s, that would have put you in London to Brighton territory.

It now means you could run a car that is cheap and practical to use in today's conditions, albeit it would lack many of the comfort toys.

Retrofit some of those and Robert's your father's brother, as we used to say.

I could drive to work in a Fowler steam tractor. Or go upmarket and get a showman's engine. :becool:

Agreed, although one of the recent adverts portrayed a student daughter being able to use her Zoe to go to college 200+ miles away.
To be fair, the new Zoe has a range of about 239 miles. To also be fair, I'm not convinced that there is a strong history of blunt honesty in car adverts...

What you all seem to be forgetting is that we will still need crude oil, possibly not as much but still needed. EV's will still need grease , plastic for its construction . They still run on tarmac and the majority of vehicles used to lay it run on diesel.
If you take a look to see what products are made from crude oil it is amazing . If the oil companies can't sell some of the products that come from crude oil then the costs will be passed on to other chemicals .

I believe Just Stop Oil banners are also made from oil!

What? Aren't all your drives along splendidly empty dual carriageways straight from your home to your destination? 😱

With all traffic lights changing perfectly to green as you approach, and of course, no hills

Unless they are rolling hills with a zig zag road so that you can enjoy the cars fantastic handling and ability to go anywhere road like.

I am incredibly suave and good looking though, and that without a car...
