Are we being forced to go electric?

We don't have to be ready. Weve got years yet.

Seriously my EV cost no more than a similar ice vehicle and it's much cheaper to run and live with.

People are panicking over nothing.

We don't know we have years yet, we are just hoping so. We already see problems we thought we would not get for another 20yrs due to global warming. This whole discussion could be a waste of time. ^_^

Is it only ICE drivers that park next to the shops ? Personally ban ALL vehicles from city centres and major town centres. Also ban idling ! Surely that we can all agree on ?

I doubt very much there is anything at all we can all agree on.

I thought idling already was banned.

And I know, you are so anti-motor vehicle that you would love to ban all vehicles, but that would completely finish what little is left of our town centres.

Think you need to tell the thousands of motorhomer who have bought vehicles that won't be delivered till next year then. The view that ICE vans, which motorhomes are based on, will not be around is not a view shared by most.

It may not be a "view" shared by most, but it is a fact. Not quite as quick as the decade suggested by Fishfright, but not all that much longer.

I’m fairly confident I’ll still be filling up on diesel in 10yrs time and cost will be comparative . The view that everyone will driving around in an EV is only shared by those whom have bought into one! I’m sure I saw a news article that the UK may follow the current EU view that this race to dump ICE vehicles should be slowed down for time being says it all ! We are nowhere near ready !!

That isn't a "current EU view". It is one forced on the rest of the EU by Germany alone, and even then is so restricted it may not actually make much difference.

The minority EU view may just be irrelevant. It's the market that is going to drive change. As more people buy EVs and EVs get cheaper, demand for ICE will dry up. Why would you want to be having to drive miles to fuel your car when you can do it from home and from many more places besides.

In my immediate area there are 7 petrol stations. There are 8 places I could charge my car if I wasn't at home or my home charger had a fault. Not to mention that my neighbour would probably let me charge and pay him the electricity cost.

I appreciate that we all seem like evangelists but honestly, after driving an EV for 6 months I would never go back. My car is the best car I have ever driven. I also appreciate that I am in a very lucky position in being able to drive it and that it is the most expensive car I have ever had, but costs are coming down. I've quoted elsewhere EVs that I could have afforded off my own back. When I bought my Renault scenic I put £5000 down and paid £230 per month for 4 years. It's not much more now to get an MG MG4 (which is a good EV).

So why did fiat bring back the ice Berlingo back from the dead?
