Are we being forced to go electric?

Firstly, because refuelling with petrol/diesel takes 2-5 minutes at most from empty to full, while for an EV it takes 20 minutes minimum.

Secondly, installation of EV charge points are a few thousand pounds each at most, while installing fuel tanks is hundreds of thousands at minimum, then you have to keep refilling the tanks, and all the associated rules and regulations regarding selling of fuel (and most filing stations make very little profit on the actual fuel sales, most of it comes form ancillaries).

So basically, the cost of providing petrol & diesel on site is out of all proportion to the benefits, while charging points for EVs aren't.

Of course there are technical and financial differences between refuelling options, but so what? Why should there be any expectation that sites will offer refuelling at all? If they see a business case for doing so, I’m sure some will.

The point I was answering seemed to be that the lack of (fast) charging facilities on campsites was a particular disadvantage of electric vehicles but as others have said, trickle charging will be possible in many cases.

Isn't camping, caravan travellers the pursuit of keeping it simple, more basic. For goodness caravaners have to carry their sh!t in a container and empty it every few days.

You can't have every modern convenience everywhere.

Personally I don't go down to that level of basic, a quality static with hot tub and turndown service is about a lowI go for slumming

supplying an EV charge point I’m sure is something a site could provide. Maybe even a couple however it would be significant cost to provide that for each hookup point. Trickle charging would be the only option.
In all seriousness caravaners/tourers will not be using an EV to tow. I’m sure other options will become available , oil is going to be around for along time yet !

I don’t want to pose, I just don’t like tall boxy cars with weird angles and odd shaped over bright lights, not to mention daft gullwing doors!

Look at the classic American stuff. Maybe they are not the best engineering but the shapes and lines are a thing of beauty. Late 40’s, 50’s 60’s. They should re design those with electric motors. People would buy.

The “animated” turn signal is supposedly better in that it shows the direction of intended travel I.e. the light starts at the centre of the car and works to the outside edge.

It’s like all things on cars , they are a blend of safety, function and style.

And stupidity. You wouldn't have brake lights withl a leisurely animated transition between off and on states.... In my opinion, turn signals shouldn't either.

Those IQ headlamps sound fantastic though. I'd give those a home.

Popping Telsa gear into older cars is getting pretty popular over there.

Popular over here too. We enquired about doing an old classic American conversion. Starting price was £125k plus whatever you paid for the original vehicle. Better to buy a rust free example from California or Arizona. So I would price guess at £170-200k total

About the same price as a custom ICE build.

Jay Leno is a fan of electrifying old cars that aren't too valuable to mess with.
