but isn’t there a price premium for those models that are? Like the daftly named Plaid (does it have a tartan interior)
Probably, but that price premium is not primarily down to the cost of the higher power.

I await the day Tesla do a 'cheap' car. The Model 3 was supposed to be 'cheap'.
A lot of electric cars are way faster than they need to be, hence the astronomical costs. Teslas are the old man's new RS4.
We're getting there. Slower than many of us would like, but it is improving. Less than 50% of electricity genberation right now is from Fossil Fuels.
Globally?
What's globally got to do with it,
'tidy your own backyard first '
So the atmosphere above the UK stays above the UK? That would be convenient.
Meanwhile we have to stop burning fossil fuels…
And stop buying cars , then country will change to suit. It won't ever work the other way around.
This all just reminds us that cars have become so much more than a means of transport for many people, as have houses and even bicycles.
Self-expression, willy waving, presence, status, identity; it's all a bit ridiculous imo, and makes the changes our society needs more difficult.
Some just like cars
And bikes!!!
Bikes are green, cars arent.
Anyway, a 1000 bhp Tesla, nor a 68 bhp Aygo can get me to work as quick as a pedal bike (and it's not even a light one).
Having a fancy car won't make commutes any less unpleasant in a car.
I do about 20000 miles a year for work and that includes regular 150 mile days. Trust me a decent comfortable car makes a big difference
