Are we being forced to go electric?

The point of having that much bhp being? Other than Willy waving as was ever thus with ‘supercars’

If you want to sell cars to car people I guess you have to play to the rules to a certain extent.
Which i guess is why EVs look like normal cars - even though they don't really have to stick to the big engine bay thing etc that we've got used to.

In a few years time they might look really different.

This is an old man's car

By definition, these were driven regularly by old men

They would not be seen dead driving a 600-1000 horsepower EV

Hilarious - ignore the paint colour and headlamps... I can't see any difference between that "old man's Rover" and the Tesla you're so desperate to differentiate from everything else. A stark example of brand loyalty.

The bodywork of a car is not what make's it exciting; it's the underlying tech. Marry Tesla's most recent battery technology (if it lives up to their claims) and their rumoured new low-cost hatchback, and you've got a practical car that'll be a winner, and will rightly transform the motor industry. I can't wait.

You'd need to be half blind to mistake the Rover for the Tesla. Very different looking cars and I am no expert. I'd struggle to draw my car.

This is the moot point with EV's for me (ignoring the elephant in the room of upstream environmental damage).

Many manufacturers, not just Tesla, are just continuing the same old same old performance car hype to sell their cars.

I am far from anti-car but... a shift towards smaller cars, with far more modest performance and that are in tune with a user's real transport needs, would be a far more responsible approach by manufacturers.

Really?? Every Tesla has 1000bhp? (Whatever you tried to hyperlink doesn’t work)

600-1000bhp.

1000bhp being the Plaid model

There are performance models some with ludicrous upgrade in between standard and Plaid

Standard model like mine have 605bhp

No hyperlinks, just screenshots. If you have any interest (doubt) go and have a bit of internet search

I agree, function over form. I was pointing out Tesla cars aren't an old man design or performance.

Tesla are still winning against rivals, they already have practical cars for virtually everyone's daily use.

The low cost hatch back will cement their position as leaders in electric vehicles

There are plenty of old(er) men, eg 50+ who drive fast cars too fast!

There are, but they aren't the ones who drive what you described as an "old man's car".

5 series beemers, A5/6s, German SUVs, Merc saloons all fall into that older man car category for me (Ymmv) which get driven too fast

Those aren't what I would think of as old man's cars. In fact most of those I tend to think of as sales rep cars, though I know you would have to be upper-echelon reps to get those, it will be BMW 3 series or A4s for the lower levels.

I would call them executive vehicles for men and women who have done well and are at their peak of career .

Or willy wavers with big car lease debts which they may or may not be able to afford ;) Most new cars aren't owned outright.

Those cars are mostly driven by old(er) men (whether or not they have successful careers or big debts who knows).

Anyhow, whether you perceive 50+ to be older is a perception. I'm 50 and perceive myself as older (I'm older than probably 95% of my colleagues for example). I am way into the second half of my life for sure (I have no likelihood or desire to live to 100)
