Has anyone put a bike rack on an EV? I imagine the aero loss would impact the range but I wonder if it’s measurable.

I've seen quite a few, and yes range will be effected, just like any car whether electric of internal combustion.

It's very easy to measure battery capacity.
Plenty of can't afford a car now , how much are you chipping in to their budget ?

Try a little harder .
Yes, exactly. There are already people who cannot afford a car now, so try to wrap your head around how many MORE might be in that situation if cheap used EVs don't become as plentiful, as cheap, and as viable as used ICE cars are now.

Any car can go up, and it doesn't take much for an ICE car to go up - split hydraulic plastic pipe and a hot engine - poof. Happened to my son a few weeks ago - fortunately he had a fire extinguisher. A pipe split causing a small fire. Melted his clutch line.

Well a few folk had fun with the leccy cars. Those that drove them thought they were great, loved the regen braking - i.e. were able to drive without using a brake, and they all found them real easy to drive. Lots of positives, but the rental costs are way outside what most can afford.

One of my colleagues booked a few, but we suspect he was testing performance, as he didn't do the suggester route and found somewhere he could 'boot' the Genesys we had. Recconed 0-60 in 3 seconds. Used up 20 miles of range in a 10 minute test drive - ahem...

If these are company cars what are you paying at the moment BIK for the equivalent ICE?

I've read mid / high range company car is like £250-450/ month

Whereas a Tesla Model 3 are around £30/ month. That's an awful lot of savings to go towards the rental cost

No it's salary sacrifice. There are no company cars here. All leased.

Be a no brainer if we had company cars (previous privately owned businesses did have) - but we're a University.

Im just a little intrigued. I would say a BMW 330 or Audi 3.5tfsi something like equal to a model 3 long range for value/performance.

Would any of your university staff rent those?

There is no benefit scheme offered for ICE cars. It's a Gov't wheeze to offer leases for EV's - it's not bad, the MG comes in OK, but it's still a wedge of dosh. The biggest issue is that's a wedge off your pensionable pay (based on salary average) and I do stress this to staff. It's being marketed quite hard for some reason (Tusker).

It's not really been stressed about the pension issues, like the Bike to Work was - £40 a month vs £400 or more off your pensionable salary, and for a much longer period ! Folk aren't realising that.

But is it cheaper than buying or personal leasing an EV? I don't know the figures to compare.

It's difficult to compare as private leasing has gone a bit crazy, but I'd say similar if you wanted a car of a similar value. Remember, EV's are a big premium.

The 'deal' comes as fully serviced and insured, so basic one payment, covers tyres, services, insurance - plug and go basically - which is actually quite good !

PCP is different as you'll need a deposit.

I think it works for those that have a long commute, doing big miles each day. Not so much for everyone else more local - but that's where 'active' travel policy comes in.

It's the hidden Pension impact - it's quite big - if you say lease a car for £4k a year, that's about £1k less going in from our employer !

Leasing seems the best way forward for high mileage drivers, ICE or EV. Company cars, EV all day. Jo Bloggs, low mileage drivers, any old car will do. Petrol/leccy heads, then anything FAST !
