Are we being forced to go electric?

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Tesla are like Dyson imho.
Frontrunners in new tech but the established players will catch up and the USP will be lost.

Most if the Tesla tech won't reach lower levels as it's too expensive and China will be able to make drivetrains at a lower cost which motor companies can bolt on to thier latest body.

This. Dyson-like pricing too. I won't be buying one until it can carry an unfolded wheelchair behind the second row of seats, has a real life range of over 400 miles without charging, and costs less than £30000. All of this I can get new at the moment for less than £20000 from Dacia. The closest EV size wise AFAIK is the Berlingo SL - £35000 up and with a real life range of 150-ish.

Sorry to say, you are likely to be dead, burried waiting for those criteria to be fulfilled

Twitter??
Or perhaps he's too sharp and dosent realise the real world consequences of his decisions rather like Lizzy and kwazi!🤣🤣🤣
Twitter I think is his first major mistake. He understands code, robotics, science etc. Not so great with people.

I don't know

If they have silicon brake fluid, it’s good for life and doesn’t need changing, DOT mineral brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water from the atmosphere, so on just about anything with hydraulic brakes it’s recommended to change it every 2 years, so if Tesla say come back in 3 or 4 years they’re playing with fire, as under heavy braking, say down hill the water content can boil and the brake pedal will go to the floor, I know all about the regen braking, but if you do need to use the brake pedal in such circumstances it could be a disaster

I don’t think he does, look at how he wanted to send a submarine to rescue those kids stuck in a cave in Thailand, then verbally attacked the rescuers who said it’s impossible.

You don't need brakes to come down hill, even 25% declines, the regen braking will pull the car to a stop if you don't press on the throttle pedal. I literally drive hundreds of mile per week and never touch the brakes- that is how efficient regen braking is on electric cars

My cars are at that point where I will do the brake fluid change myself. - not a difficult task.

Ok, so we agree the bin lorries will be expensive. A new diesel one with duel collection can be around £200k. I just find it hard to believe that the bog standard pick up lorries cost anywhere near that.
Best place to ask would be York City Council. It was they that made the purchase, before they found out that they didn't know where the power supply entered their buildings.

Sounds like an excellent feature, is It possible to adjust how hard or gentle the regen braking is or is it a fixed parameter?

On some cars, yes you can have aggressive or mild, eg Tesla/Nissan. I think Hyundai/Kia it is more variable settings

On the ID4 they use "blended braking". So the footbrake initially just steps up the regen, so that only the hardest braking actually uses the brake pads.

The sensation you feel, driving an EV the first time is like those dodgem carts with the metal conductor rod touching the roof. Soon as you press the pedal you go and come to a halt when released.

It feels odd, but after only a little time feels great.

Now when I get into an ICE car I don't like the continued motion without rapid deceleration.

Driving around twisty lanes is a doddle with the car slowing quickly for tight corners, same when coming off motorway slip roads, , you can drop 20-30 mph in a few seconds just by lifting off the go pedal

How often do you do 400 miles without stopping ?

I've not done that ever in 37 years of driving.

Most folk do when covering huge distances , problem is where you stop , will you be able to recharge ? Right now it would scare me a bit If I’m honest ! Just been on the Zap Map app and I’m not filed with confidence just round my work place !!
