Does anyone have a recommendation for a late season marathon?

As mentioned above, I've got other objectives this summer but wouldn't mind cashing in on my fitness to attempt a decent new PB in the marathon later this year.

Ideally August or later, a fairly fast, flat course and somewhere within reasonable distance of North East England.

A big one or a small affair.

Grim up north do then mainly on the canal but a few else where. Just a few locks between Saltaire and Leeds.

Not too bothered, happy with a small one, plus they tend to be cheaper and easier to get into.

Usual 20 miles over the Pennines.
First half felt good, but second half felt rubbish due to outside circumstances....

Lovely day but a hoolie of a southerly wind....

Studley pike was out of my range unfortunately!
That would have hobbled me for the next few weeks!

A course PB by 9s (18:26) at my local parkrun this morning, in spite of the slippery paths. Some fast teenagers came down with their coach from Doncaster and finished 1-2-3, and I got suckered into trying to keep up on the first lap, which may have cost me a bit. Still really pleased; heading in the right direction.

Returning to running after an 11 year layoff. At 23 i ran Hitchin Hard half marathon in 1:21:20 (1984), Baldock Beast half marathon in 1:38:50 (2014) now at the age of 64 ive decided to have a last crack at 5k, 10k and possibly a half. Im 7 runs in over the last 3 weeks and ran 7,5 miles at 9 m/m. At 6'1" and 13 stone 3 im a bit hefty especially as i was 2 stone lighter in 1984. 12 stone is my target weight over the next 6 months. I have a fair bit of fitness from cycling 2500 miles annually and working in construction. I d like to get to 70% on the WAVA score, tough but should be within reach. Wish me luck
