Why is that funny?

Automatics still have clutches, they just aren't operated manually by the driver.

Traditional automatics did not have a clutch at all, not just lacking a clutch pedal

Some flappy paddle type boxes have an automagically operated clutch but this is a relatively new thing outwith racing or exotic cars
