I only know because I'm a fractals nerd! The maths is totally beyond me, but they are very cool things.
Ooh, I did my own programming of the mandelbrot set when I was younger.
It's "just" a plot of complex number coordinates run through an iterative function. For each coordinate the magnitude of the function output would usually grow larger and larger.
If say after 1000 iteratations, the magniture is under 4, then then you consider the starting coordinate to be in the set, otherwise it's out of the set.

Simple as that, so no-one expected the set to have such equisite detail and structure.
Being in the set is a binary measure, so a true plot is monochrome.
This doesn't belong in the jokes thread!

I know a similar story which I'm assured is true by the Gardener concerned. A fairly wealthy homeowner he knew had agreed to pay for a fairly substantial amount of work and then refused when the work was done. After a fair amount of arguing, he asked if he could take some cherries from the largeish tree on the front garden as payment. The homeowner agreed, and he made a contract for "cherries from the tree on the front garden" which the homeownwer signed, telling
him to then take the cherries and leave.
The gardener then cut the tree down and dragged it into his trailer before the homeowner realised what he'd signed, and drove off with the entire tree.

I have a freind who had a tree cut down in his front garden no bother... Except Alan Tichmarch walks by later that afternoon, and said what have you done to that tree, I liked that tree....

I always pulled his leg about Alan Tichmarch favourite tree he cut down!🤣

I understood all the words, I thought they were great words, unfortunately I didn’t understand them in the order they were written.
