Whilst it's a good line, I doubt Italian electrics were better in the slightest, and their rustproofing was notorious.

Maybe some of the bad rep was the 6V systems on some old bikes

As an aside, when Triumph relaunched they were showing their new and fully modern bike at an event, but some wag from a rival firm sneaked in a tray of oily sawdust under the bike whilst their backs were turned. Quite funny ! I actually have a modern Triumph and it's excellent in every way. Sadly they mostly make (admittedly pretty) retro style bikes these days and have dropped the sports tourer so I'll have to buy foreign next time

I worked on a 60s Ducati one time and found the electrics to be pretty friggin awful. As for Lucas, my 53 Triumph never gave me a single hint of an electrical issue in about eight years of use, it was 35 years old and dead original when I got it and the original owner was the army so it hadn’t been treated all that nicely either.
