I tried to catch a bus this morning but it broke my arm.

Anyone seen the Buster Keaton stunt?

I saw a frame by frame analysis of that which was trying to work out how on earth he'd done.
They eventually realised that the "trick" was that it wasn't a trick. He'd simply grabbed the pole of the quite quickly moving tram and been yanked off his feet

One of my "heroes", give me Keaton over Chaplin any day. So under rated and did the majority of his own stunts.

If you haven't already heard it you might enjoy this BBC interview with Harold Lloyd from 1962 https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05t3f72

We saw "safety last" at the cinema a few years ago; the one with the skyscraper climb and him hanging from the clock. Particularly enjoyable was the truly brilliant piano accompaniment by the great Colin Sell (of "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" fame). Presumably largely improvised as Sell didn't have any music in front of him

No contest really, he was the best of them all for sure.

Wonderful

I used to know a lot of people who were into proper climbing

apparently they NEEDED high tec rubber soled climbing shoes that could never be used except on rock
and proper gloves
and there is someone climbing up a vertical concrete building wearing leather soled shoes (probably)

all together now
"no dear that it not at all like cycling - I do really need new carbon wheels and a new aero helmet"

Re: climbing and climbing shoes. I was told a lovely story about someone climbing in a quarry in Derbyshire, with an admiring entourage suitably impressed by his skill and daring. There was some kind of cave rescue practice going on in the same quarry, and when the climber dropped a bit of gear from sixty feet up a wetsuit clad caver picked it up, climbed the face without rope or gear and wearing wellingtons and handed it back to the climber "you dropped this mate". I think the entourage lost interest at that point
