Each year the town of Fife has a tench eating contest in which participants eat as many tench as they can in an alloted time.
The final two contestants were a local lad called Hicks and a lad from Sweden called Stefan.
Hicks went first, but on taking his first bite, broke a tooth which fell out, so he had to retire. Stefan, though he didn't need to, still used his alloted time and consumed nine fish.
The local headline next morning read:- ‘One tooth free for Fife's Hicks, Stefan ate nine tench’.
