You can. You pop your stuff back into your trolley then pack your bags at the bench that runs along the wall 3 metres away.
But that doesn't seem to make any sense. You have to take your shopping out, put it onto the conveyor belt, run to the end, throw it back into your trolley, then take it all out again and put it into your bags? . Confused? You will be

They save money by hiring a limited amount of staff and they want to get customers served as quickly as possible so from that perspective it is a good idea, ok so you unpack your trolley to put back in etc... but in theory you shouldn't have to queue for very long.

Give me an Aldi or Lidl queue over a Tesco or Asda or worse still M&S one any day, so fast and easy with pleasant professional staff in all those close to us.

I must add the we never have and hopefully never will shop on Fridays or any other busy day, we tend to shop midweek.

We don't have any queue's at our Tesco, its scan and shop, we just scan anything we want, pop it straight into the bag then when we are finished shopping, scan the barcode on the till.............pay and done, very fast

My wife came back from the market with some "produced for Aldi" chocolate yesterday, don't know how it got here, and I have to say it was even worse than the muck that Cadburys are now producing.

The nearest Aldi to us is in Hounslow so I have never been. However, I have heard so many good things about their £10 gin that I will visit shortly. I quite like Lidl. It's rather like visiting a souk...all sorts of random stuff piled up but without the hard sell. Their prosecco is good, and the cheap champagne at Christmas was excellent. They do some halfway decent wines too . Other stuff to look out for are their packs of Parma ham and the like, as well as the Shark brand five blade razors.
I quite enjoy the gloomy, unadorned functionality of the place.

Funnily enough I used to use the Gillette Mach 3 razor blade from Morrisons etc which are now a crazy price. I have switched to the Aldi version and they are spot-on and I save a fiver every time. Crazy.

You do better than us at Morrisons - we use the self service facility but are forever calling the poor over-worked lady over. Initially to do the under-age drinking check and then for the inevitable 'won't scans' or 'please remove last item' messages.

Re the Aldi method. I hated the notion of it at first but in practice it is very fast and efficient. Much faster in fact than the usual service from the big supermarkets.

I'd be slightly happier scanning my own shopping if doing so gave me a discount... after all, I'm doing someone's job for them.
And my other gripe about these newfangled self service tills is... the more we use them, the more staff they're going to lay off.
And another gripe (Yes Morrison's Local... I'm looking at you!), by the time some member of staff has noticed the red flashing light, stopped sweeping the floor, sauntered over to 'age-check' me before thumping the screen... it would have been quicker to just use the normal till... if anyone ever manned it.... grrrr

I buy Gillette Blue's from Poundland, £1 per 5. I don't like going there because it has the same sickly smelll that every £ or Chinese shop has, Morrisons has it too.

Tesco's self service tills has your notes (change) coming out in an odd place so that you forget them.
