I'd be slightly happier scanning my own shopping if doing so gave me a discount... after all, I'm doing someone's job for them.
And my other gripe about these newfangled self service tills is... the more we use them, the more staff they're going to lay off.
And another gripe (Yes Morrison's Local... I'm looking at you!), by the time some member of staff has noticed the red flashing light, stopped sweeping the floor, sauntered over to 'age-check' me before thumping the screen... it would have been quicker to just use the normal till... if anyone ever manned it.... grrrr
Try loading shopping directly into panniers on one of those self-service tills - complains every few items for any bags other than the normal thin plastic ones. Grrr....

Give me an Aldi or Lidl queue over a Tesco or Asda or worse still M&S one any day, so fast and easy with pleasant professional staff in all those close to us. I must add the we never have and hopefully never will shop on Fridays or any other busy day, we tend to shop midweek.

They must have better management, conditions or pay? The Aldi staff are eager, polite and helpful.

We don't have any queue's at our Tesco, its scan and shop, we just scan anything we want, pop it straight into the bag then when we are finished shopping, scan the barcode on the till.............pay and done, very fast

We use that system at some stores, but when you have a very full trolley with £100 worth of goods, no thanks I will let somebody else find the bar codes.

Did you know Aldi products have more than one bar code on to speed things up at the tills.

I don't care about queues, checkout speed , if the place smells, surly staff and all the other gripes mentioned all through this thread.
I shop where I can get quality cheap and each shop has its own must buys...
You get to know them.....
must admit Lidl's chocolate is fantastic value:thumbsup:

When Aldi first came to the UK they didn't scan your goods. The checkout operators had to memorise all the prices and manually enter them into the till.

That must be one hell of an allotment if it yields milk, butter, cheese, meat, baked beans, breakfast cereal, soap, toilet rolls and the like.
It is! The toilet roll tree is a problem when it rains though.

Was in Harrods 10 days ago as part of a trip to London.

Immediately I walked through the door this security guy pounced on me and queried the package I was carrying and also gave my rucksack a prod. Reluctantly he allowed through the hallowed portals and there was an audible clunk as the whole tone of the place sank several notches with my presence. I felt like asking if they'd do me a certificate to prove I wasn't really good enough for Harrods. We went to all the expensive bits, jewellery, the fine wine department (not as good as Super U, IMO), the cameras to ask a few questions about the Hassleblads.. It's a great place and the staff really are very professional. Afterwards we went and had a Big Mac.
