Drive. You would have thought the county town city of Essex would have a vaccine centre but apparently not.
The closest being offered is the other side of the QE2 bridge in Kent so would have to cough up on the toll as well.
Well wait until Basildon sorts itself out and gets the invites sent out.

That is a bit of a round trip - I would've done it though if I am being honest.

Where was the vaccination centre? I was born in Dartford so maybe there? Or was it at Bluewater?

Tried to book mine but was offered a vaccination at a site which is at the other side of the country. There are much closer sites so I'll wait until I'm offered an appointment at one of those. I haven't been more than a mile away from home since the latest restrictions and I'm baffled as to why they would encourage anyone to travel so far from home.

Just checked again and there is a new one. Rayleigh (about 30 minutes drive away). Original closest was Woodville Halls, Gravesend which is currently 1 hour 2 minutes away (according to Google).
We are going to wait until our designated centre (according to our GP) gets up and running. This is just 12 minutes away by car.

Just keep checking. When I booked my father's jab, the system was live so stuff came and went. When the centre 12 mins away is checking should get you on their quick, unless that one isn't going to be run through central booking.

I rang my GP surgery this afternoon to find out when I was likely to have my first vaccination and was told I can have my first jab Sunday afternoon.

Very impressed as I am 54 and thought I may have to wait a few more weeks before it was my turn.

Jab due Sat afternoon, is there any issues with travel i.e. is it okay to cycle their and back (or drive:crazy:) or do I need to be a passenger?
Had my jab on Thursday morning on the way to work. Biked 7 miles to the surgery then another 6 miles into work then the 13 miles home - all on a 29er and without any problems at all.

I thought there was a vaccination centre at the Colchester football ground as well as at the main hospital

Cue me working on a farm as a student many years ago. Two of us were discussing our dates and the problems with running a car to take them out. A worker in his 60s looked on with growing exasperation.

"Blast, bor - you youngsters today know nothing - nothing! When I was your age, I would cycle 9 miles for a s**g, 9 miles back again and think nothing of it"

Maybe time to repeat my earlier advice: the first letter you'll receive is the 'official' NHS one, which in my experience, offers jabs up to 50 miles away or even more. Not great for anyone without their own transport, as it could involve a whole day on various forms of public transport, exposing yourself to multiple opportunities for infection. Maybe a week later, you may receive a locally generated invitation.
This might not apply nationally, but certainly in Notts and several other areas, try Swiftqueue. You may be offered a jab within walking distance.
Try this as soon as you receive your 'official' letter!

(I suspect this is another ruse to make the great British public believe that private is better - when and how was this contract awarded?)

There is but I'm waiting for somewhere local to me which is what was being pushed out when vaccines were first pushed out. I'm not really going out anywhere because of lockdown so I don't see the urgency to get vaccinated right now. I'm happy to wait for the moment.
