My first full year back in the saddle so nothing to compare it with really. 2024 has been a weird year with so much going on both for myself and the good lady wife (including having her hip operation postponed three times) that has kept me off the bike.

Over 118 rides I’ve covered 1,804 miles at an average speed of 14mph and climbed 62,340 feet; all in 124hrs 54mins. My average ride length has been just over 14 miles with the longest 30.25 miles.

Much better than last year when I only did 773 miles 😱 (only 9 months). My target for 2025 is 2,500 miles, mostly on the new bike (when I decide what to get) 🤔 The Allez will then become my dedicated indoor bike.

Oops; almost forgot I've also done 17hrs 10mins on the turbo trainer, spread over 23 sessions.

A few thousand kilometres below my best year 13,579km in (2020), but a pleasing, and carefully finnessed, number, and plenty of Everests.

Not long ago rolled in from ride 100, my last ride of 2024. This is the first year ever that I've properly recorded my gravel and mountain bike rides. I only record leisure miles, not commuting or utility miles, so according to ride with GPS this is my yearly total:

I guesstimate that I've probably covered about 1500 km of commuting and utility riding, so not bad totals. I'll have to see how I do next year.

A very good year’s cycling for me – my best year to date.

13,311km (8271 miles) cycled since 1st January 2024 (all outside rides) and that’s just over 500km more than my previous best of 12,804km (in 2022).

784 rides – I like to go out at least a couple of times every day in all weathers, if I can.

885 hours on the bike.

All six bikes exceeded 1500km this year (with over 100 hours ridden on each one). The road bike did over 4000km, my new gravel bike around 2250km and my MASSI MTB over 2100km.

Managed to get my Eddington Metric up from 74 to 79 and my Eddington Imperial up from 50 to 53.

Edging closer to my target of 100,000km cycled since 1st January 2017 – I’m just under 74,600km – and I hope to reach my target sometime in 2027 (or, perhaps, by the end of 2026).

Well, write it down boy ......
2,200 on the solo.

5,500 on the tandem.

Just shy of last year's all time overall record for me, but the latter a record for us by a very long way.

Happy 2025 all!

You have no idea how pleased that photo makes me. I regularly go down there and do a litter pick and clean the notice boards. I got tired of cleaning the bird poo off the boards, so ordered some bird spikes and fitted them. As you can see they do the trick!

Ah great, good for you, thank you for your efforts and very pleased to make you happy!

Now, to make me, and much more importantly Mrs Tuesday happy, could you please ensure the van selling hot chocolate is there permanently during the hours of daylight ?

My highest year ever, on 9620 miles / 15482 km, which beats my previous best of 9596 miles in 2019 by just 24 miles, but some way (by 500-1000 miles) above my general average on most years.

A map of my rides in England and Wales in 2024. There were a few shorter, isolated rides on a holiday in Scotland too but they don't fit neatly on the map

Was the northern loop an audax or tour? Went over some nice terrain either way.
