Wondering around Whitby today I visited Donkey Road as mentioned by @Legs , I can confirm I will NOT 🚫 attempt to ride up it

The Photos don't do the steepness justice 😮
If only I'd gone for a 36 cog on the back rather than a 34 I'd have a go 😂😂

That looks brutal. Cobbles too.

Serious question, probably for @Legs or @Norry1 - is it even possible to ride up a hill like that on a road bike?

I'd be happier on gravel tyres for that one, but I think it should be doable. (Particularly if you have a dinner plate cog on the back  )

Apparently it HAS been done, but at 1:1 in places it's probably not for the likes of you or I.

It looks similar to Michaelgate (smother) in Lincoln GP and the sportive 100. The only saving grace is that there is a narrow smooth gutter path at the edge, where most try and ride. The risk if you can't keep a straight line is pedal strike on the kerb

For me after 100 miles it was hell, the only time I literally felt like passing out on a bike:B), when the paths are lined with cheering spectators. There I am trying to look like a half respectable cyclist holding a more than crawling pace.

i did a Dorset sportive a few years ago where it finishes at the top of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury (the Hovis Hill from the adverts) - same as you. spectators lining the street cheering everyone on. I was halfway up when the wheel went between cobbles and I lost my balance and tumbled. I was so knackered I couldn't unclip and get the bike off me, a couple of guys came over and picked me up  I did the walk of shame for the last bit lol

How is you program going Andy? How long have you got left to go with it?
Really enjoying it, just around the right level with me struggling in the last 5 mins of the workouts

I think there is a couple more week left. I missed nearly a week and haven't followed the number of rides per week trying to catch up.

I may do your race on Tuesday if its the course you have mentioned

It's definitely 6 laps of Duchy Estate. But it will be at 0950 not 1050 for one week only in the Atlantic slot.
(We're changing our clocks on Sunday but the US not changing for another week so I'm leaving it at the same UTC time for another week)

EMEA slot will change so it will be 1850 UK time as usual.

I managed 90 minutes of this one. A big DNF 🤦‍♂️😂. It was a mass start event of 105km. After a flat and fast first 10k the large lead group finally split on the first climb up Titans KOM. I held with a group of c.15 others in/around 70th place. The legs were starting to sieze up after an hour so I set a target of holding on for 90 minutes. It was looking like 2-1/2hrs plus for the overall event. Time for a coffee.
