Enjoyed my tough 28 mile Crit race, yesterday, results position were modest, but much more satisfied I was consistent to the end, with less than 15 secs per 2 lap segment across the whole event. The pace as usual at the start fast, I went with the A and fastest B riders but realised after 1 mile that running 1/2 bpm of max race HR @358W wasn't going to be sustainable and had to back off. The route even though very flat has a few 2,3 % gradients which make you work hard to keep up. To keep up I was surging in power repeatedly to match my groups pace which I accomplished by holding the same gear for the whole event, but varying cadence up and down 90+rpm. Some riders tried to break from our pack but were never successful, so that plan was out of the window. My group were torn apart by the A group lapping us with 5 miles to go, some trying to go with them, from then on our pack began to string out. 4/5 of us regrouped and raced into the finish. I had nothing for the sprint other than to roll in at the back of my pack.
You only need to worry if you're being lapped by Cs or Ds.Sounds like good fun Andy. Well done. Always a bit demoralising to be lapped by the A’s especially if I no longer have the energy to latch onto them.
As a C I have lapped D's in the past ..... but equally, I've been lapped by both A's and B's usually happens on the Volcano 4km short course races, but sometimes on London flat where the A's can really fly!You only need to worry if you're being lapped by Cs or Ds.
Our club top TT rider has Lees weight and more power than me . He and the A pack blasted by. Trouble is I didnt even see them coming, with so many riders in my pack the information only just appears as they fly by . If I/we had a little pre warning, then there is a small window where you could wind up the power to match their pace and slot into the pack
Took the scalp of the club Chairman last night, so not all bad, and can lord it over him for a while, seen as he calls me 'cuddles'
