EEK! Do they know why you got the blockage? Are you on blood thinners?
No real insight on why I got a clot -- I don't really have significant risk factors. Blood clotting tests all come out dead center in the normal range. Docs don't think I'm likely to get another and haven't ordered any imaging on my legs. They're calling it a fluke.

I'll be on blood thinners for 4-6 weeks. I'm cleared to ride the trainer, but not at race intensity. Next blood work is at the end of the month and I expect to get the all-clear on intensity then -- just in time to race up Big Cottonwood.

Sounds as if it would have been very scary Jeff. Blood thinners?
Scared the living daylights out of my wife. As for me I fully expected the initial blood work to come back negative. Even when d-dimer test came back positive, the false positive rate is so high that I expected imaging to come back negative.

When doc came in and said I had a PE it was a bit of a shock. Poor wife was at home with the kids and I could only get out the "I've got a pulmonary embolism" without much of the additional context before getting pulled away (relatively small, in a location that's not likely to dislodge and cause more problems, likely heading home rather than admitting, etc).

Depending on the weather i will be doing this. I wont be able to get on before 6-30pm most nights though so either early before work or 6-30/7pm in the evening. It would be great if we could all ride together.
I'll try to do most of these, but not sure what days/times yet. I'm off work next week so may end up riding them during the day time.

My knee^_^
I received a call from a consultant today. She sounded about 12y old. She wanted to talk about my understanding of the MRI etc. So I explained. Torn ragged miniscus, damaged cartilage, cyst, ganglion. And then, without offering any further information about what the scan showed she referred to a BMJ which suggested no advantage to an arthroscopy as opposed to physio and said no need for orthopaedic referral. Now, I had been warned about this by a friend who is a leading academic/trainer who explained some of my symptoms such as knee having restricted movement sometimes suggested ragged (I like that word) cartilage was getting caught in the knee joint, typically when sat/walking and if correct it needed to be cleared out. So I mentioned this saying I didn’t want to waste NHS resources but wasn’t there some merit in having a look ? She immediately agreed! If I hadn’t had the chat with our friend then I would be none the wiser. So, I have a referral. Watch this space:biggrin:

Geared Boardman bike at the bike shop having a service, checking out the BB and indexing the gears. This means the SS is on the turbo now for a ride later on Zwift  May have to set the realism to 40% else those gradients are gonna hurt somewhat

1st stage of Tour of California done. Of course it was a race, stayed in the front group for the first 1 and half laps, I always get those ‘up and downs’ and the end of the lap wrong.

Got picked up by the second group and beat a few of them in a sprint :training: picked up 29th out of 300 odd.
I'm planning to have a go at 5 o'clock. Be on a Single Speed bike as geared bike is in for a service so no idea how I'll go  Looks like a fairly flat course so should be able to cruise along with a slowish group, but won't be able to sprint as I won't have any big gears to go into.

Did stage 1 of Tour of Cali today on the Single Speed (on Pro trainer). Set realism at about 40% (I fiddled with the settings pre race and for a flat course this seemed about right - anything less and I think I'd have struggled to push out enough power on the inclines). Race took me 48 mins, and averaged 99 cadence :heat: Having only one gear you really have to spin to go faster  There were times I wanted to increase the speed and I was going for the gears, but then remembered I had no more gears so just span faster  Hard, but enjoyable :okay:

Happy summer guys. I am not ride in Zwift or indoors for a while, weather is been too good for that, but lookin for a forecast i have start to consider indoor training again. +27°C sounds exhausted. It's been unusual hot in Finland past few days.
