So a few things worth noting.
Went out into the real world last weekend. I was focused on the temperature and felt it was warm enough to climb up in the mountains. What I didn't check was the wind, which slowly sucked away my motivation to climb. Add to it I forgot my jacket -- so it would have been an insanely code ride down. I only went about 5 miles up my benchmark ride at some absurdly slow pace before turning around. Didn't make it up to the snow line
.
Had some really strange and intense pain near my collar bone Monday with each breath I took. Freaked my wife out more than me... Standard painkillers didn't help, so I took something special which dulled the pain enough and I was able to sleep. More on this momentarily.
Woke up Tues feeling fine. 5th in the KISS EUR on Tuesday. Set PB on the Fox Hill climb, averaging just over 300W the first time up. I don't climb Fox a lot so it's hard to judge how excited I should be at setting my #1 and #2 times. I felt fairly weak, particularly for the final few miles after the second climb up Fox and was caught by a couple riders after emerging from the subway, otherwise I would have been fighting for the podium.
Severe pains in my back, shoulder and right side of my chest Wednesday. Could only take shallow breaths. Deep breaths were painful. Lying down was agony, sitting up marginally better. Figured it was time to head into the doc. 30 minutes later Pluerisy diagnosis. Taking a good dose of steroids now to reduce inflamation. Assuming the blood work comes back negative on the more serious, but less likely concerns it should be cleared up within the next week or two. The 'roids certainly help and I'll probably be on the bike during that time, but I suspect nothing really hard.
Settled on doing 3 real world races this year.
Big Cottonwood race on June 2. Never done this as a race. Full canyon is 14 miles and 3800ft vertical.
Snowbird Hillclimb (my traditional race) on July 28. 9 miles, 3000ft vertical
Citycreek Sprint in Aug. 5.5 miles 1300ft vertical
