I used to really like my local family run gym, but COVID killed it. It was a lovely big open space and I used to go during quiet hours.
(Why would anyone want to queue for machines?)

But I haven't been back. Bought some of my own weights for home use but they don't see a lot of action.

I've always done weights, since a teen. My dad was violent and would beat us, so I started weights to get bigger and able to protect myself. Kind of took off from there. Never been particularly big, but always had a bit of muscle. After losing Rach the gym has been my 'happy' place where I can go to be with others and not feel so alone. And my gf quite likes my guns haha

Did stage 1 of Flat is Fast today on Tempus Fugit. Found that with the new variable racing score pens, I could enter D at 160 - 270 (my score at the start of today was 250), which meant I was likely to be in with a shot at being competitive. Plus being a heavyweight on a flat course wouldn't hurt either.

It was certainly the right group for me - went at about the pace I'd expect for anywhere between a high-D and a mid to low-C in the old system. Stayed with the lead group all the way through, expending as much energy as I used to in a ZRL race (e.g. right on my limit but not having to cross any red lines at the same time) and the closest I came to being dropped was going to be only if I lost concentration at any time.

Front group got whittled down to 50 or so by the time the sprint started and I gave it a go, but I only had enough in the legs to do 5.5w/kg compared to the 8's that some guys could do and I ended up 16th (13th on ZP).

Wasn't that more to do with MyWhoosh being willing to pay the UCI for the privilege of being their "official" e-sports provider and Zwift weren't? Or at least that was the rumour.

Well kind of true but the non corrupt UCI would have stayed with Zwift if they thought it was for the best…..

Back from PDC darts later . Great atmosphere, very much like rugby. Everyone cheers each players achievements, no partisan cheering.

Being a lightweight, flat is fast is not my ideal race, I did this race on Monday and stayed with the main group until the end of the Fuego Flats segment, then was dropped from the main bunch, so gave it another go today and managed to hang on to the end, got swamped in the sprint, which I expected with all the big wattage guys, but 8th place 5th on Zwift Power and a ZRS upgrade to 270 is a satisfying result.
