I say indievelo, I guess I mean training peaks

From what I've heard from racing buddies the physics on MyWash aren't very good. Also not everyone likes them for various reasons.

But the huge download and minimum system requirements will be a barrier to many. I've raced on Zwift and TPv and like them both. I have no need of MyWash.

Anyone on an annual sub won't be paying £18 a month, and anyway, most people who ride a lot spend more on that at the coffee stops (I don't).

An average decent road tyre costs about £50 now. MyWash isn't exactly free if you need to buy a new computer to run it on.

Just had a look at your recording, @alex_cycles. Holy smokes, that's a lot of stuff on your screen! No idea where to look

Well obviously you should be looking at your own screen
The main thing I use is the profile chart. Other stuff is mainly for reference afterwards. The gap indicator can be quite useful, but as you say it can be slighly laggy.

I didn't have any trouble spotting when you were going for it. I just couldn't hold on.

Happy new year all!

Great to have some new faces. Just looking through there's a few people who don't seem to be on the forum anyone like @Ketty and @Joffey and others like @BurningLegs who haven't been seen for a while, hopefully all keeping well

Happy New Year Michael :okay: and everyone else, who isn't nursing a hangover.

We are off down to watch the world darts championships quarter finals today. :hyper:

Hopefully the heavy rains will wash away all the riff-raff making for a pleasant journey 🙏

I've done over 1,100 miles on TPV now so I thought it was time I did a comparison with Zwift.

1. Graphics. No contest, Zwift is greatly superior.

2. Ease of use. Probably similar but I've found TPV very easy to pick up so would say it is slightly better.

3. Physics/dynamics. Here I much prefer TPV. It feels a lot more realistic. Breaks happen easier, wind is a factor and corners require you to slow up.

4. Gamification. This one is easy as TPV has none, other than ticking off routes when you complete them.

5. Worlds/ Roads. Not sure of the exact numbers but Zwift has loads more roads and multiple worlds.

6. Socials. Facilities are similar but there are many more users on Zwift. I've joined a friendly club with 300+ members. It is much easier to create clubs in TPV and anyone can create a club kit which can then be used.

7. Workouts. Not sure why but I prefer workouts on TPV.

8. Customisation. TPV is the winner. Just about everything is customisable and you have access to data like torque.

9. Racing. Zwift has much more choice (if you only want to race real people) with many more organised events. TPV has variety such as Elimination races which are fun. I prefer the physics in TPV.

10. Bots. This may be a Marmite point. TPV has 10,000 bots each with their own power curve and w' etc. They look like real people on screen. They are around a lot in free rides and pacing groups but you can exclude them in any organised rides or races. Apparently you soon learn the characteristics of some of them that you see regularly. One benefit is that you can arrange races at the drop of a hat and the bots will populate them if not enough real riders sign up. E. G. I could arrange a race in 30 minutes time if I wanted.

11. Price. No brainier at the minute as TVP is free. Come March it will cost whatever Training Peaks Premium costs which is not loads, especially with the various discounts that get offered, but not nothing either.

So, in summary I think both are great platforms. For serious indoor riders, there is a strong case for having both.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
HNY from me too!

I haven't had a booze hangover since 2012 because my little chat with the Grim Reaper finally put me off it back then...

What I do suffer from though is lack of sleep. I have only had 4 hours so far and need more! Dozing off again shortly...

I am looking forward to joining you on my virtual bike soon.

I got invited on a NYD walk but the weather isn't great here today and I need to work on my bikes.

I found a missing part for the rear mech that I plan to use as a chain tensioner on the trainer singlespeed. A new chain actually works without a tensioner but I couldn't risk sprinting with that setup. Once a chain wears it gets sloppy and risks coming off. My one really bad crash came when that happened to me as a teenager. It would not be quite as bad on a turbo trainer but could still do a lot of damage to me and the pain corner!

If there is a break in the rain later I will probably nip out to get a short ride in then work on my bikes.

Oh, I watched the world's most painful AdZ ascent!! The poor guy suffered for 2.5 hours to do it. Kudos to him for not giving up! I don't think that I will try it until I am fairly sure that I can go below 90 minutes.

Agree with all that. I did my first race exactly a year ago on IV and it was literally "set it up and race". No piddling about.
No question it is a much better platform for serious racing, but there's the rub...

I've had so much fun in the game of Zwift, I still took out an annual sub in late May, just before the price increase.

To my mind, for anyone who is a "serious racer" TPv is the winner. But for anyone who enjoys the game, it's Zwift.

Serious racers do the Sunday Race Club on the UCI platform.

Yeah good point. Depends what you mean by serious racer though I guess?

Martin has a coach and a training plan and races for real outside.
That puts him in the "serious racer" box in my head - although he isn't an elite TdF rider.

I take my racing seriously, but don't consider myself a "serious racer" - it's just fun - a fitness game. For me, the idea of structured training and workouts would make it "not fun" (I've tried it and didn't like it).
