Will need a picture of the whole set up when it's all done, sounds impressive. Hope you actually like it as there's a fair bit of sunk cost at this stage!
I hope so too! Assuming that my TV repair is successful then I am currently looking at a total of around £650. I may also end up paying about £50 more for a bigger fan if the current one isn't powerful enough. If I kill the TV then I will probably look for a used one for around £50.

That is using a spare bike and does not include the cost of the Zwift subscription...

I think that I will like it.

My recent outdoor winter rides have not been much fun - damp, chilly, overcast and windy conditions put me off the hills, largely confining me to 3 busy valley roads. I won't miss that when transferring much of my winter effort to indoor riding.

I have been watching lots of Zwift rides on YouTube and liked what I saw; mainly timed climbs rather than races. I want to find out just how quickly slowly I go up AdZ! I would love to go close to an hour but realistically, I think it will be well over 50% slower than that. Still, once I have set a time I can race robo-pacer Col and try to improve it.

I'm pretty confident you will enjoy it, it's pretty immersive, particularly group rides and races

Since you like climbing, you need to try the climb portal.

For all things Zwift, have a look at the Zwift Insider website:

I do like it... I am just not very good at it!

Still, I am getting better. Over the past 12 years I have lost about one third of my body weight, which helps a lot!

I can probably lose about another 6.5 kg/1 stone before I start to get too scrawny. 73 kg/11.5 stone will be a good climbing weight for my medium build, and height of 1.86 m/6' 1".

Out on the roads round here it is difficult to follow a strict training plan. Awful road surfaces and worse drivers don't help. As for 15+% climbs and descents... Zwift plans should be much nicer to work with!

PS Add another £25 onto my £650 total - I forgot the HRM!

Climbing is much easier on Zwift than in real life, you don't wobble when you get too slow for a start, I'm 100kg and I can get up 20% on Zwift, I don't think I could do it in real life.

The other benefit is there is no steering/leaning/slowing for bends so you can keep a steady tempo.

Descending, you can't crash, which makes that a lot quicker

I was wondering about Zwift descents... I have hit 80+ km/h*** freewheeling off a local hill at around 6-8%. Not having to worry about crashing, surely one would spin out on any significant descent?

*** PS I just put the numbers in at Bike Calculator. I should have been doing about 65 km/h so I must have had a tailwind that day. I probably could pedal at that speed downhill in a high gear.

I am currently not doing anything through Apple...! The registration process is repeatedly failing to send a code through to my phone. Hundreds of people online complaining about the same problem...
Yes, YES, YES - I finally cracked it!!!!!! :okay:

I will now get on with downloading the Zwift app to my Apple TV box.

For the sake of the hundreds of people out there with the same problem, a bit of Google-bait to bring them here to my solution...

If you are getting this message when trying to set up an Apple account (or make changes which require a code to be sent to your phone):

Verification codes cannot be sent to this phone number at this time. Please try again later

TURN OFF WIFI CALLING!!! (Turn off your phone's wi-fi until the code is received.)

It worked for me immediately after doing that!

I'll check later to see if Google has picked up this post, which it should do.

Ha - now it is telling me that I need an iTunes account... I'll report back later!.

Lots of hoops to jump through... 2-factor this, install that, password the other... Now I am back to waiting on my slow broadband. It looks like it will take as long as the PC download did.

I am really peed off waiting for fibre to make it to my local green phone cabinet. Other streets in the town have had it for some time.

I had better stop otherwise using the internet or it will take all night!

Oh, hang on... I just discovered that I can stop the Zwift display flickering by changing screen mode. I'll see if I can work out the difference between the 2 modes while the download goes ahead.

Sorted!

That is on my 55" OLED TV. The old 40" LCD TV won't look as clear as that, but hopefully it will still be pretty good. I'll try to fix the old set tomorrow (Monday).

I had black frame insertion enabled. OLEDs respond very quickly so the screen was effectively working at half the frame rate. I thought that I had disabled that. I'll watch some Netflix now and see if it looks any different on that.

Feeling a bit sniffly, so I thought a gentle ride would do me good. I started with a pace bot that was too easy, so jumped on Maria. Just the right level. Began to feel really good , kept going, finished off with a burst of energy
