That was so cruel for Joffey and you, going full beans to latch on. You can see Joffey had 175bpm at the start after literally 15secs

D cat were lucky this time being directly opposite B. Is it 1 minute minimum starts between cats/gates?

It wouldn’t drop either when I was in the group so I just sat up. That’s down to me not riding for a month mind you! No excuses - just need to ride more.

If you don't have same-time starts, I think it is 1 minute gaps.

It would be great if there could be a "neutral start" option. IndieVelo has that. But you can't rely on people's goodwill for that. It has to be enforced.

The flipside, today meant I knew I wasn't going to be able to hang onto the Bs for very long after having to start like that, so I figured I'd see how I got on with you guys. I was always going to hit it on the punchy climb out of the tunnel (you know me Andy - I love those). But I was glad to see from your video that you were able to latch on so I could lead you out for the final sprint and your opponent got left behind. That was exactly what I was trying to achieve. :wahhey:

It's much nicer to latch onto the faster guys even for a short while after the start, settle into the event
I just knew you were going to go early, so I watched, watched, you gap me and reacted so slowly, before I knew it, it was too late:laugh:

Good sprint Alex:okay:

I was getting a bit worried when Phil and Steven got back on coming down from the roundabout

Maybe they burnt their matches doing it.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the event, suit me , apart from the incline

It's startling to see the pace of the B just ride away , what looks effortlessly up the Elysée, great riding lads

My video a few clips looking backwards to check on Phil

Yes burnt the box getting back on , then on the long drag I was sitting outside the draft . Steering seems such a big advantage in smaller groups . I was going to go early entering the tunnel but Alex kept the pace too high for such a move ,but I blew on the drag out so it probably wouldn't have worked

It really is, my steering recently has not always connected one of the sides. Its no big deal, just power it off whilst riding, on again and in 20 or so seconds, function is restored. It happened today, my left turn wasn't working at the start, you can see I'm far right for a little while whilst I reset the left steerer. Then I did a little swerve to check all was well.

Another point I've realised recently, with steering, the avatar tends to pull in behind the fastest moving rider in a small pack. There is no input from me, a very useful benefit. just a feature Ive noticed recently.

Have you seen this Alex?

I did see on the video you wanted steering riders to move over for you. I would suggest you get a pair, really enhances the ride tactics, especially on twisty courses, or final turn into a sprint, you can edge another rider by taking the tighter turn.

I was looking at the Sauce data just before the start at the differing w/kg. I felt confident seeing the numbers on that particular course

Certain platforms appear to have more problems than others. The Apple Bluetooth seems pretty robust, but some Windows users seem to have issues.

Yes. It's getting better with each release. They have been gradually tweaking auto-follow for all riders. It was interesting in a TTT I did yesterday that I was able to help a team mate get back into the draft by either getting slightly ahead of him then nudging across behind the others or coming up alongside and effectively pushing him across to bump him back into the draft.

I agree with that. It enhances the racing experience. I really miss it in DRS where it is turned off. I think you'd find it helpful Phil.

Wow @Alex and @Joffey start pen seemed miles back well done both getting on especially @Joffey .I strangely enjoy these smash fest which I don't don't suit me but there dam good fun thanks for putting them on Alex and sorry for making you do all the work at 7km 😂

I did think steering was a gimmick until Alex's Glasgow crit race , a 2 up race for me and the guy just spent the whole race steering me off his wheel ,the penny dropped then , that's the first time in a bigger group I noticed I seemed to be just on the side ,
Was going to treat myself to steering for Xmas but my wahoo screen went so I replaced that ,steering a future purchase

My experience with steering so far is that it doesn't give people any advantage in a normal race. It was introduced months ago and I don't recall ever losing to people because of it. I do believe it gives you an advantage in a solo TT though.

I was very surprised with the way the other four B riders rode today. There was always someone pulling, one guy did an attack up the fully-draftable hill and then people burnt their matches coming out of the underpass, hoping to gain ground. I never carried out an attack - just always followed others to shut them down, which costs a lot less energy. I've no idea what they were thinking. I don't want to sound disrespectful but rolling them on the finish was like taking candy from a baby.

I too just try to cover the surges and wait for the sprint, which I fluffed to beat Alex , but his intention was for me to take the D cat win, so all good :okay:.

The reason I think Pete is you don't see a benefit, is that you're top level B rider, so can cover most other people's attempts to get an advantage.
Im not complaining at the moment, knowing I have feature which does help me save energy. It'll be different when everyone get it

Well you are by far the strongest rider in that group, so it really should be (look at "adjusted vELO"). But even without that, look at the way you've been able to dump us all whenever you want on previous weeks. It's fine though - I love it. You're just better and you've worked hard for it, so you deserve it. I think Justin Reed had a bit of an off day today.

The rest of them, I think they were just having fun.

I was looking over the ZR website, it really doesn't come as a surprise to me I'm classed mainly as a sprinter, with a modicum of punch. I've been that since I was a kid for sports.

What I did like the graphical layout, of my erm physical attributes.

I've been chatting with most of the rest of the guys from the Friday Smash (in the ZR.app discord) and most people agree that it would be nice if we had a "gentleman's agreement" to have a neutral start so that all pens can come together. So if you guys like that idea we could try that.

It may be that we get someone in at some point who doesn't know and goes off the front, but once we've bunched up we can chase them down. Might be worth a try?
