I’m holidaying with the wife for 10 days though I’ve booked a hire bike for 7 of those. My plan is to get in early morning spins - all solo - 90 mins or so; with one long day which I’ll aim to cycle up to the cable car base station on Teide 🌋 - I’ve cycled in Tenerife before back in 2014 but that was at the height of summer. I’ll pack some gear for cooler weather as I hear it can be very cold up at altitude and on the descent. I’m staying in Costa Adeje - I don’t remember the roads that well other than having to head out under the motorway on the road up towards San Lorenzo / Arona. I need to research a few more routes and ideally find a flat route for a few easy days though that might be wishful thinking.
You could make your way on the coastal roads to Playa San Juan, climb up to Chio, then onto the top via this
road. This link is to the
restaurant we used to stop at before going onto the top.
Then across the caldera, back down via Vilaflor. You can then get into Costa Adeja easily. Or do it the opposite way. The roads up to into the Teide national park were all resurfaced around 2019/2020, so should be super smooth. The days will be just starting to get longer for daylight, making the ride safer on descents.. The temperatures on top can be so varied, usually clear skies, you can see by looking for the volcano top
Enjoy, have a few beers
PS is you see Tenerife bike training group rides, say hello to Marcos or Alberto from Big Andy
